Re: Including a knife in your uk get home bag

Is it illegal to have a knife in your car if its hidden away with the spare wheel along with some other tools - i.e. not at all easily accessible? I used to have a box hidden away in the car that had all kinds of gear in it - some rope, a torch and batteries, some water, some chocolate etc etc - plu...

Gieger counter

Hi, Recently there was a report of a radiation scare at Sellafield (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-25975785). I'm sure this was no more than the report indicated - ie not much. However it got me thinking - if there was a bad radiation situation - how would I know? Would I be relying on...

Re: How many candles? testing 1-2-3

A few years ago I bought loads of large pillar candles from these people : http://www.candlesontheweb.co.uk/acatalog/Church___pillar.html They are pretty expensive - but last for a LONG time and are nice enough to use around the house in non-apocalyptic times. However I've no idea if much cheaper ca...

Re: What would there be to come back to?

Depends on how quickly things fall apart - and where you are. The worst case scenario would be if you were in a major city and there was a very sudden breakdown of food supplies - ie the huge logistics it takes to constantly re-supply all the supermarkets stops working. If it was a localized inciden...

Re: What food to store?

I wouldn't worry about keeping Vitamins, there is so much debate about whether fresh ones even have any real benefit, let alone 10 year old ones..... I'm not a big believer in taking vitamins in general - but if I ever had to live off supplies in my long term storage then they might be a good idea....

Re: What food to store?

Delard, bet someone on here would gladly take the out of date tins of you if you were local and the tins were sound. Well I've got tins 5 years out of date now - I won't throw then away until they are say 10 years out of date. Would you really want to stockpile tins that old - knowing you might not...

Re: A question on water.

Using bottled water and then refilling from mains water only makes sense if at some point (when you have loads of containers) you stop buying them. However you do then have to keep rotating them - as has been pointed out the shelf life of your tap water is likely to be less than the unopened bottles...

Re: Pharmaceuticals should be the last resort

Here is an example happening right now. A ten year old girl has leukemia and the doctors think she has an 85% chance of full recovery with their treatment - and almost zero chance without it. However the parents disagree and are giving her a "regimen of herbs and vitamins" instead. http://...

Re: should i buy it?

Regardless of its effectiveness it looks pretty scary. It might be good as a deterrent if an attacker didn't know what it was. However if they call your bluff you will be in trouble.

Re: Pharmaceuticals should be the last resort

Cancer is totally and easily cured........... but a simple pennies cure would wipe billions of Pharmaceutical profits and all that lost research cash, it goes way deeper than that. This is complete rubbish. If there was a simple cure for cancer - do you really think that not one of profit hungry ph...
