Re: What Preps are you doing this week

Hi Guys! Great advice. Forge Corvus - Thanks - my technical language knowledge is pants :), however I did spend a few months years ago making up a peat briquette/coal fire, but used matches - kicking myself at lost opportunity - I could have been a pro at this by now!!!! The fire starter I have is a...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

A few more ordered bits and bobs arrived this week. I now have a fire starter and have been making kindling(?) with the fluff from the tumble drier (yes, I will miss this when SHTF) and tumble drier sheets (which I've used specially in order to make the kindling :)) in anticipation. Normally the flu...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

Bought a few large cans of fruit (all the use-bys are 2016 at the latest - will they last longer?), more matches, a gas/fire lighter, two Mylar bags (the kind two people can sleep in) and I've ordered a fire striker. I can see a pattern forming here. I think the cold worries me more than going hungr...

Re: Free first aid kit

I clicked on the link for the First Aid Kit, but it just went around in a loop - at no point did a form or anything come up. I'm not Jewish, but have Jewish sympathies and lived with a Jewish family for 5 1/2 years - does that count ;)? Oi vey!

Re: Kilner/glass jars for dried food storage?

I meant to say, depending on how long you keep your dried stuff in the jars, the fact that they're clear is a big problem unless you keep them in the dark.

Re: Kilner/glass jars for dried food storage?

Just for general hygiene, I freeze all dried goods in their bags for at least 24hrs or until I remember ;). Kills anything I don't want in there and, yes, you do get bugs in even the most expensive flour, etc, from all the big supermarkets - yuk! Then, for kitchen use, I decant them into the Tesco g...

Re: Bug Out Locations

Like the sound of Adrian's place - just a pity you're so far south :). I'm not sure you'll get to eat the fruit though :). Too many people will be roaming around foraging. I would make it look as abandoned as possible and hide accommodation in plain sight. I don't have any bug-out plans right now an...

Re: New Member - West of Scotland on Coast

Hi - just as well about the jargon, because I'd be bound to get it wrong :). Read about the Nu-Wick candles on here, somewhere, I think or perhaps on one of the American prepper sites. They are candles in a tin with 3 wicks. They burn for a heck of a long time and you can cook with them. Sadly, they...
