Fiesty the first thing to do is check the switches are on at the distribution panel/ fuse panel, then check any fuses. if it is a blown fuse replace it, if it blows again a fault exist some where in the circuit. After the fuses blows or the circuit breaker keeps tripping out, call out an Electricia...

Thanks for the responses about the ex-army gear. I can understand the used stuff - it's just the new stuff - feel they should use up stores and not have obsolete stock - if it was good 5 minutes before, it's good now. Having said that, if I could get hold of a few gas masks .... ;), I might be tempt...

Storage is pretty good, I think the canister would rust out first. As aleady mentioned, if long term storage is more realistic, get a gas detector for it, and store it close to fresh air. Ideally, in a shed next to the door - A you can easily check the detector inside of having to 'find' the bottle...
