Food/fuel prices are getting silly now, always use washing machine with full load, soda crystals act as water softener so mix with laundry washing powder reduce cost of detergent (use less) & prolongs life of machine in hard water areas like mine. Instead of kitchen towel I cut up old clothes, t...

Thanks folks for the info, already got the carbon monoxide detector due to gas boiler for hot water, I'll write a list & have look/see round shops, can't abide shopping unless know what I'm looking for then it's in and out as quickly as possible

Good tip looking at tenant agreement Yorkshire Andy as states not to store eg calor gas cannisters (makes sense on safety terms) your ideas on bio ethanol etc & use of hobo stove (obviously on open ground as suggested) worth looking into, thanks all for the ideas

Some good ideas to look into, not averse to cooking next to open window (balconies an option) just need to add extra layer of clothes if it's middle of a freezing January

Used to make hats for a living hence the name, got few months worth of food, water, toiletries, good old fashioned loo rolls and some candles put by, I'll no doubt come up with questions whilst browsing the forum, everyone seems to have lots of useful knowledge
