Prepping covers a lot of areas and people all have their different reasons for doing it. What's yours, and why are you here ?
We went from two wages to none , from both working to neither of us working. I had a lot more time to think...and he says I'm dangerous when I think
Why are you here ?
Re: Why are you here ?
A gardening accident while home alone with no first aid kit started me off....Started as FAK's then went from there!

Re: Why are you here ?
I just want to be able to look after me and my family through hard times...whether thats a power cut, flood, unemployment, food and fuel shortages etc etc. Also learning how to make do with less, me and MrsCC both had well paid and stressful jobs that started to affect our homelife....I quit and became a lorry driver, she quit working completely. Much less money coming in but a hell of a lot happier

I think that sounds like a good move CC. Scoobie that sounds nasty, what happened ?
Re: Why are you here ?
I have always loved survival movies/series but I think what really triggered the prepper in me was a book by Alex Scarrow called 'Last Light' which is about Peak Oil and it's affect on the UK, after reading the book I began stock piling food/water and building my BOB also trying to absorb as much information as I can about what to do post TEOTWAWKI.

Fortunately escaped with just a really cut up leg and some large bruises...could have been so much worse! But it got me thinking and on to prepping!

As an ex Boy Scout and country bumpkin I have always had an attachment to a simpler way of life.
So after hearing a quote a long time ago “that the more sophisticated a mechanism. the more prone it is to primitive attack. It became clear to me that things will probably only go one way.
(This is me going to have a rant) So over the past few years I have become aware that there are now so many people that just don’t understand how things work. (And more to the point don’t want to) they just don’t understand where stuff comes from and what to do, if it stops working. They just can’t sort in it out for themselves.
This to me all adds up to a massive problem waiting to happen. And controversially and I apologize for speaking in riddles but I don’t intend to be one of the sheep left to the wolves.
To quote my father “any fool can be uncomfortable” ie smart people look ahead and make preparations. PPPP preparation prevents p-** poor performance.
I’ll end there but ya I’ve lots more to say

I had to give up work too for the community outreach team at my local museum. Used to go round schools and old folks homes doing remeniscence sessions about different periods in history. Eventually got sick of being on the rollercoaster that is the special needs education system and watching it fail my child so quit my job to home educate. That probably got me thinking more about doing things for ourselves. Ive said before but watching events unfold on 9/11 following which I did kind of forget about prepping for a little while because I thought nothing would ever happen where I live then we had the floods which gave me a bit of a wake up call. Ive always had a bit of a passion for WW2 as well particularly how families coped on the home front with rationing and shortages etc. Got some old tins of dried milk and dried egg from back then dont think ill be using them though!

That is one of my favourite quotes regarding prepping. It pretty much sums it up for me.counsellor wrote:To quote my father “any fool can be uncomfortable”
Re: Why are you here ?
I looked at house prices in the 80s and wondered what would happen when no one could afford to buy any more. That lead me to look at theories of economic growth and realise that unlimited continued growth was a mathematical impossibility in a resourced limited environment.
A little later, when the USSR crumbled I got a bit deeper into history and realised that all empires eventually fail which naturally got me to wondering how long ours had.
A little later still and with research access improved by the net I looked harder at events that cause civilisations to collapse/change.
I suppose I'm not really prepping for a sudden, short lived event but for the (probably) inevitable day when it all starts to go badly wrong.
Mind you I was raised to always have a FAC, always have spare fuel, always have candles and always get more food before you really need it. To me 'just in time' is already too late.
