Pees and Poos!

Post by Exonian »

Me again!

I have decided I will set up 2 buckets with lids. One for No 1's and one for No 2's.! For No 2's I will line the bucket with plastic bags and use sawdust (courtesy of guinea pigs) to cover offending items then bury bag in garden when fullish up. But, what about No' 1's? Would I still need to empty into hole in garden or could I just sort of chuck down drain or something? Sorry if this sounds a dumb question but needs working out before its too late..................

Pee is good for the garden the fresher the better, so if you have one put it on the compost heap. You can also use your poo in the garden look up Humanure on the internet but it can be a bit complicated.
Do you have enough room in your garden to build a composting toilet which could solve your problems

Exonion, I agree, its about separating out pees and poos (very nicely put  )

I'm not sure but I don't *think* a compost heap needs all the human urine available from a family (oh my god, that sounds gross!). But it can also be used for other things. The two I can think of right now are disguise - the grey man approach, to sprinkle urine around the perimeter of your place, if things are starting to break down and go that way - and also its used to tan/soften leather - in the 19th century, it was collected by factories for that reason, people were paid for it, as opposed to having to pay to take it away.

Thanks everyone - not really much room in back garden for compost toilet but am going to check it out.
Just found on Amazon that you can buy (quite cheaply) plastic buckets complete with toilet seat lids. Wish I knew about them whilst camping last year cause I spent more time going back and forth to loo block than I did sleeping!
