Bread,,, Home made bread.... NOM!

Post by Yorkshire Andy »

well since stocking up on preps to make bread seems like a good idea to practice before a SHTF situation so having had a few beers and a full sunday lunch it seemed a good idea to have a go....

Anyhow...

instructions are on the bag 1 bag + 2 loaves and there was 1/2 a bag left.....

so ..

1/2 bag plus about 360ml of water and a drop of cooking oil (couldnt find any olive oil in the cupboard)

good stir

bit of plane flour for kneeding...

Image

left to prove for 30 mins

knocked out then shaped... Made 3x Baps ( yes i said baps not barn cakes or rolls THEY ARE BAPS OK!) and a self shaped loaf

then put the oven together since it needed 45 mins to prove

on the cooker with a few welding rods to hold it in place

and warm it up

separate tray of water in the bottom to steam it ;)

30 mins later

bit of butter and Mmmmm

oh and the rest of the mix made a COB in the house oven

criss cross pattern came from a pastry brush and a dab of milk :geek:

Nice.
There's nothing quite like warm, homemade bread. Especially if teamed with homemade jam... :D

Must have been the day for bread making - I had another go using a recipe that I never made work before and yes the first lot came out yeasty but the next lot was "nom nom nom!" Practice and reading the recipe properly helps!

im surprised about the oven had it a good few years yet it seems they have stopped the supply of it to the UK... its a bit of a pain to set up as it warms it tends to distort but with some deft flexing with a pair of welding gloves it works well

Has anyone tried one of these? (I have no affiliation to the product, just found it while googling for a coleman oven)

They have some good reviews

Fascinating to see a Coleman oven, I hadn't heard of them  I'm avoiding my accounts at the moment, so nothing doing from me on the experimentation front, but this looks a great result, Andy, well done!
