Could the mess tin change for a metal mug? It might fit a little better or even some trangia pots (trangia set), they may fit better and could be broken down to house kit. They also do a smaller mss tin type set if Im right in thinking....

Good thinking Janso.

Also, how about a small multiband radio?
Maybe a basic fishing kit or some air rifle pellets? A catapult?

Good thinking, the metal mug (a Crusader type thing) could replace the mess tins and be used for cooking food, eating and drinking. I just tried mine and it sits fine on the Hex Stove

Might be worth adding some pre-made snares and/or snare wire and cutters to the fishing kit, and I had totally forgotten about the SAS Collins Gem as well

When we get a completed list together I will get some pipe and try out the packing to make sure it all fits (take some pics etc), then bury an emptyish one in the garden for a month or 2 and see how it holds up

Great idea i'm looking for a bit of pipe to try and put a basic one together! and bury it halfway to my bol! how about a fold away bag! Because i'm thinking i've got out of hell but ive got nothing i get to the cache and i want to empty it into something easy to carry! poundland do them when they're folded away theyre no bigger than a small pair of socks!

Good idea pietka, I also picked up one of those from the poundshop last year.....a "fold up Rucksack". I've been wondering what to do with it :D

And speaking of socks......just one dry pair of socks stashed could be a lifesaver as well

Thinking about it realistically, my idea of packing a lightweight tarp isn't practical. The cheap tarps from B&Q wont pack small enough and the proper "bushcrafty" lightweight tarps are probably too expensive to bury (for me anyway).

I have just been reminded about the Poundshop "Foil" shelters, similar material to the space blankets but in the shape of a ridge tent (with no ends). They pack very small and only cost a pound :D . I picked a couple up last year. Was it you who did a review of them Hobo ? Someone did but I cant remember who or where.

The same chap pointed me in the direction of these MOD Sleeping bags http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/COMPACT-EMERGENCY ... 2558c1c8c1
Again, packs very small and are very cheap. I've never come across them before but they look ideal

How about this CC bought one a while ago for my EDC bag, it comes packed in a small pouch it will easily fit inside your pipe cache.
