If you are stashing tins of food, don't forget a tin opener or a knife/multi tool with one included. I would practice too. It's all well and good saying I have a tin opener on my multi tool but they are not all that easy to use. Maybe stashing tins with the pull lid might be a good idea. Heinz soups have pull lids and are the best tasting in my opinion.

A wind up torch is an essential, batteries don't last forever. I have 4 or 5 that include a radio and are quite small. anything wind up is a bonus as you will eventually run out of batteries and most have a maximun shelf life of no more than 7 years. Unlikely that you would be lucky enough to purchase them the day after they were manufactured and the day before the solids hit the air conditioning.

There is no reason why you can't stash more than one drainpipe so I would go for the proper tarp as keeping dry is a must in the UK and being wet is a real moral drainer.

Be lucky

I wasn't really thinking of tins of food for myself. 2 or 3 tins would take up a fair bit of space, I was more thinking a few packet rice type things or boil in the bag stuff...stuff you could compress a bit. The wind up stuff is always good though

I've heard mixed reports on those Andy, they look good for their primary purpose but a few people I have spoke to didn't like them. I haven't tried them myself so they might be ok as a makeshift Tarp....no eyelets though so you would have to go down the pebble route. If anyone isn't aware of them or how they are used there is a pdf here http://www.hmvf.co.uk/pdf/SHELTERS.pdf

It's an important area to get right though

You could get tarp clamps: http://www.clasohlson.co.uk/Product/Pro ... =161087133

Unfortunately clas ohlson don't do online ordering but there is a store in Manchester so if anyone wants them, I'd be willing to get them for you and send them on. Postage wouldn't be much as they are very light. Or you might be able to find something similar elsewhere?

Thanks Smiley

What about breaking down the First Aid kit to some basic essentials, remembering space is limited

So far we have

scissors
Pain killers
anti-histamines
brandy
suture kit
antibiotics
Immodium
Laxative
Rehydration powder

Back on the main list it may be worth adding a bag of nuts or BB's as ammo for the catapult, some lures etc for the fishing, also maybe some speed hooks and or possibly the Yo-Yo auto reels

One of these first aid kits might be handy, they are in a small pack (i have one in my BoB) so would fit the pipe, available from here http://www.lakelandbushcraft.co.uk/acat ... _Kits.html . The chap who runs lakeland has been around of prepping forums for a few years.
