neurofen , again asda pound for 8 .
these are not offers but the normal every day price .
300mg a day is a standard dose but i wouldn't be surprised if you could manage off 75mg twice a day instead depending on your other meds u take.

Nurofen 1 pound for 8 would last you one day following the instructions. Generic ibuprofen has 16 in a pack for 0.25p. So for the same price you can get 8 days worth. Nurofen has nothing special in it other than the name. They are identical otherwise

I would hope so to. But people do get drawn into branding and it is a bug bear to see people waste money on meds that work no differently!
I once got into a 'discussion' about this.
The other guy insisting that branded products are much better because they're branded, and trying to explain that all products marked with the same BP number have the same quality and quantity of active ingredient.

I love the con that one drug brand came up with, this package for joint pain, that one for headaches, one other for muscle pain and an other one for period pains... All with the same BP number

Re: paracetamol & codeine, there are some with caffeine in them. These seem to work faster.... Or is it placebo ??

There is evidence to suggest that caffeine will speed up the absorption of paracetamol. How much by i am not sure but lets be honest paracetamol takes about 30 mins to start working. There is also evidence that caffeine can help reduce pain in headaches. Again no real credible evidence available to support that. Seems like something a drug company has clung to to try and support their claims of 'rapid action' and 'quick acting' in all honesty! But again others may have a different opinion to me

Suppose the disclaimer to read the label and pamphlets with the drugs you get. People with high blood pressure should avoid ibuprofen and some decongestants
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

this is a great thread, at the moment i just squirrel away whatever i can if i think it looks useful, its scattered around the house, I'm trying to build a core medicines stash for the commonly used ones and only that I'm confident I know how to use - this post is prompting me to get more organised.

I think generic branded paracetamol is cheap and effective and one we use the most of in our house, so thats in every bag, drawer and most rooms, we always buy a pack when were shopping - id love to see if i could round it all up and how much of it we have when combined, that'd give a good indication of how much faith we have in it and how much we could use -naturally its all hidden away from the kids..

Not a lot of knowledge needed for the over the counter meds as they all have directions on the pack. Paracetamol is an awesome drug if taken correctly and allowed to build overcouple of days.

We use Intravenous paracetamol at work and it works a treat. It also means that the 10mg of morphine we had to give before we had paracetamol to get tge pain down now looks more like 2 to 5mg to get the same pain control. That means less opiates and less side effects such as respiratory depression and vomitting. Both difficult to control in a trauma situation.

Can't sing it's praises enough but people think it is rubbish because its cheap and you can buy it anywhere...

Thinking of doing a proper list of all meds and their uses and how to obtain with a rough price if anyone is interested?

The list of meds i put is just a few of that available

But only want to post relevant stuff people can use?

I have mine stashed by type in tins, to make sure I use them in order of purchase I write the expiry year on the box so they are all as potent as they can be when being used.
