Got myself onto a course :)

Post by digi »

For about 18 months i have been trying to get onto a first aid course based around one of my favourite pass times, and it finally looks like i have secured a place in march :) These courses only run once or twice a year and spaces are very limited, so im chuffed to bits :)

Broken arms and legs are a VERY common injury, along with sprained wrists and ankles. Severe life changing injuries happen, and there were 2 deaths in the UK last year. Things can, and do, go wrong in the blink of an eye, and id like to think that if im around and the worse should happen, then i may be able to increase someones chances of survival.

Heres some of the things covered

• ######### injuries, including practical trauma scenarios
• Patient assessment
• Emergency life support
• Manual in-line stabilisation of the spine
• When & how to remove the helmet and harness (equipment provided as part of course)
• Airway management
• Acute haemorrhage control
• CPR and AED training
• Mechanism of injury
• Legal aspects

im really looking forward to it :)

Sounds like a good basic course. Should have a lot of fun and learn quite a bit. Next thing you know you'll be joining the ambulance service :D

My paediatric first aid course for work has led onto me joining st john ambulance. I am looking to become a community first responder, either via the St John ammbulance rout or via our local ambulance service, so you never know where a simple first aid course may lead! Good luck and enjoy learning your new skills. :)
