Re: My first loaf!
Sure thing
500g Allinson strong white bread flower
1,5 tsp sals
1 tsp sugar
15g soft butter
7g sachet Allinson easy bake yeast
300ml warm water (2 parts cold water, 1 part boiling)
1. Add flower and salt to a large bowl, stir in the sugar and yeast, then rub in the butter. Add enough water and mix to make a soft dough
2. Knead the dough on a lightly flowered surface for up to 10 mins until smooth and elastic
3. Place dough in a tin (I used a 2lb loaf tin) cover and leave for 45 mins or until doubled in size. Preheat oven to 230C
4. Bake the loaf for 15 mins at 230C then reduce the temp to 200C and bake for a further 15-20 mins or until the bread has risen and golden brown all over, and sounds hollow when tapped
5. Turn out onto a wire rack and cool..
Slice and enjoy
P.S:This was the recipe on the back of the flour packet!

Re: My first loaf!
that looks really good, making bread in the oven (rather than the bread machine) is next on my to do list.
Just one question what did you put on it low fat spread or butter!

Re: My first loaf!
That looks fantastic. I do my own bread all the time, but I use a bread machine. Yes it's cheating, but the bread is fantastic. It was handy the other week when the weather was awful - I had a freshly baked loaf without having to trek into town through the ice and snow.

I used butter...you can also use 15ml vegetable oil instead...lisaloolibell wrote:that looks really good, making bread in the oven (rather than the bread machine) is next on my to do list.

Re: My first loaf!
I was thinking about getting a bread machine, but now knowing how easy and quick it is to bake lovely fresh bread, I'll be saving myself £100! Hands on time is about 15 minutes, plus resting, baking and cooling time...Attack Warning Red wrote:That looks fantastic. I do my own bread all the time, but I use a bread machine. Re: My first loaf!
That's a great looking first loaf, well done!
While I prefer bread made from scratch a machine does have its uses, I often bung all the ingredients for dough in the pan before heading off on the school run. On our return there's dough ready to turn into pizza and garlic bread for a quick and easy tea.
