- speaking of which, after some personal experiences recently with wounds, I looked for some iodine on sale cheaply in the UK - Lloyds Pharmacy do some, for less than £2, so I went to buy it - they had to order it, and then I collected it. Its only a little bottle, but I'm happy I've got something. And then I noticed it said "iodine and potassium iodide" - which is the stuff that safeguards the thyroid, isn't it? Which I also have

I was just wondering about iodine recently. Thanks for the heads-up.

Also, the nit combs sound a good idea.

I popped into Lidl today and they had two great offers on; 2ltr camping water bowsers on sale for £2 and evian water, 6 bottles, half price, if anyones interested?

They have fizzy water on offer too. I know its not ideal but water is water.

Absolutely the7ps! I store a lot of fizzy of water - it's slightly acidic so takes longer to develop that "stale" taste.

Found a pair of old Realistic CB walkie talkies (Realistic TRC-1008) for £10 in a shop, run off a 9v battery and after looking them up apparently putout 4Watts, which I will check, only issue is they only operate on 27.89000MHz so channel 30 but for a £10 there do.

"two is one, and one is none" as they say.

Eventually got my order through from realfoods, minus the wheat. They have no wheat !
It was left on my doorstep in the rain...fortunately the beans were all wrapped in 1kg packets in plastic and the sack of TVP was wrapped up in a bin bag so it was mostly just wet on the outside. Could only fit 7kg of TVP mince in each mylar+20l buckets, so i might have to buy more at some point, though i managed to get all 12kg of dried beans in 1 bucket at least.
Been pottering in the garden between showers its quite nice today :) I'm not producing a heck of alot this year, it's just a learning experience for now.

Fizzy is good. The carbon dioxide means that the water hits the colon faster-faster hydration!

You're welcome! **blushes** it was only 25ml, but even several dressings don't actually use much.

As for the nit combs - I'd previously walked around a big Boots store, and made a list of what I'd buy when I could - this was after reading one of the medical prepper sites in the US - that after TSHTF, the stuff that people need medical interventions about is actually going to be much what it is now - sprained ankles, upset stomachs and such like. Better to cater for that first and then go esoteric.

Speaking of which - I've been checking out my local evening classes, the brochure for next academic year has just come out - a first aid day is £80 :( but St Johns do a 3 hour thing for £36 ... that might well be good enough for starters.

Bought some darning needles big enough for leather and tents and whatnot - £1.29 at Sainsbo.

5l water £1.05.

Picked up a load of toothpaste and toothbrushes and a few bottles of shower gel from the 99p Shop earlier in the week. Today in Poundland I found an emergency shelter (possibly mylar), a really useful mesh bag (might become part of EDC) and a tough little 'tiffin' tin which has become the home of my fire starting kit. Pound shops FTW! :D

Holland and Barrett has a 'buy one - get second half price' deal on at the minute. Decided to have another go at cooking with soya mince (the dried stuff) so picked some up while it's on offer. If it's successful then I'll look into bulk sources and methods of storing it.
