I think that's a good price for Duracell.

The chemist at the end of my street! They are also doing 8 x AAA for £3.29. I'm going to meander back and buy a few more packs.

If you have a Ikea try there AAs 10pk for a pound, they seem to last the same lengh of time as Duracell.
I once read a posting on another site that Ikea and Duracell are made on the same factory line, no idea if that is true or not.
I have been using Ikea battries for a couple of years, without any problems, [no leakage].

Itsy - that's the usual 'sale' price for Duracell I think. My Morrison's usually has them at that offer. I wouldn't pay any more myself. In fact I think I only buy them when they're at that price.

There may be a sale on batteries at the moment because of the bad summer weather - people not going out for day trips, staying in for the Euro football/Olympics etc. It's all connected.

COSTCO do a shed load in a pack, I think it's 48 and they last a decent amount of time plus they have a shelf life of 7 years.
Can't remember what I paid but it was less than a tenner.

I think Duracell are the best way to go. Rechargables. Anything else is just second best. Duracell Last along time. If you can get a solar powered charger for them to. Thats a Bonus.
