I'm sorry mate, but NO air pistol could or should be used for hunting live game under any circumstances.
Firstly they simply don't have the necessary power to ensure a clean kill, secondly shot placement with a pistol is hit and miss (pun intended) at the best of times.
Buy yourself a decent 12ftlbs spring powered rifle and scope and practice lots out to 40 yards.

I'd agree with Eddie, though if you were hunting and or defending yourself against an angry hamster at close range it may work, self defence against a human with a 1 shot .177 air pistol you could easily finding yourself having to retrieve the thing from wherever your victim put it

Yep hatsans are popular for there price. Air pistols are perfect for hunting within 10m as they easily go straight through a pidgeon or magpie. I can get a 1 inch grouping at 8m with my hw45 which is spring and the crossman 2240 is used heavily by proffesional pest control in the states for rats in urban areas
I have a HW45 that's about 38 years old, needs new seals its shooting all over the place, and I think that's the Crossman I have too .22 calibre pump up, yes that thing would take rodents no problem, and birds really close with the .177 HW45 no doubt possible too. I'd stick with the rifle best suited to the task if I ever need to hunt though.

I have one of these. Make sure the Choke is tight every time you use it. There have been plenty of posts on shooting sites regarding this issue. My chokes come loose quite a lot. I now use thread lock.
