Not a prep - more a precursor to prepping but this week I am trying to sell stuff on ebay - including loads of mint on cards 80's action fugures.
The funds raised will then by used to buy more preps!
What Preps are you doing this week
Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Working on the principle of two is one and one is none, I just bought my second Singer 28K.
This one was made in 1901, to go with it's younger sister (1904)
Hand cranked, just tested it. Perfect stitches; as if it was made yesterday.
Need to get some spare bits but that's me building in extra redundancies.

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Bought a hatsan shotgun, been fishing, done lots of gardening.
Re: What Preps are you doing this week
i have just purchased 4 acres of arable farmland with eight stone buildings on, the area needs cutting before it can be baled to make silage for the winter so i spent 5 hours last night pulling ragwart from it, back breaking and the kids soon got bored with it but it was good to see the end results, once baled the local farmer can have the bales (what goes around comes around) and i will put my lambs on it and save a third of an acre for potatoes, turnips, carrots and onions. that will be me with as much lamb stew as i can stomach

*steals this idea* I'd forgotten how good skipping was for fitness. Must get myself a cheap skipping rope. I was cracking at skipping when I was a kid. Can't imagine it's that hard to relearn.nickdutch wrote:Practiced with a skipping rope to help build fitness.
I've been going on long walks to keep myself fit / get to know the area again / keep myself sane. Unemployment is making me deeply unhappy. Signing on is hideous. There's naff all work out there and what little there is out there is very very low paid or temporary or part time or all three. I appear to be either grossly over qualified or not qualified in the one thing the job advert really really wants and they don't want to bother with training. Gah!
Luckily I still have some money left, but I'll be breaking into my meagre long term savings if I can't get a job soon
Upside of all the free time when not job hunting is I've been looking for wild food while out on my walks. I've found that the suburb down the road seems to have only cherry trees planted at the sides of the footpaths, therefore cherry brandy is now in progress in my cupboard (Christmas presents sorted ). I've also found apple trees, chestnut trees and I think I've found sloes and plums. Brambles / blackberries are everywhere. Marvellous
My pepper plant finally sprouted flowers this week so it looks like I might get peppers. The aubergine plant hasn't died thankfully and despite its first flower coming a cropper, there's another couple on the way. I need to work out when beetroot and carrots are fully grown because I can't tell what's going on under the soil.
So some good and not so good going on at Chateau Le Mouse. I'm just so thankful that my cupboard is still healthily full at the moment. At least I won't starve yet.
Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Le Mouse, I understand how you are feeling about your unemployment. Mine was for a short while, and never will I forget those feelings-ever. My Son -in -Law is in exactly your situation, it is crap!
However, you are doing positive things it would seem. Fitness is top. Healthy body, healthy mind. Exercise fends off depression etc. which is very much(I am sad to say) a problem with unemployment.
On a positive note, there is a lot of wild food about. Blackberries are going to be record I think.
Hang in there, and try to stay positive!

In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Supportive vibes from me too, Mouse, thats not an easy situation to be in. Is there any free training in anything available to you via the dreaded Jobcentre? Anything online you can do to earn amazon vouchers etc?jansman wrote:Le Mouse, I understand how you are feeling about your unemployment. ETA - should write about my stuff too, I've been doing lots of gardening, and yesterday when I went for a cuppa tea and a chat, when my companion bought pansies, I bought a lovely healthy rhubarb plant - relatives were making rhubarb and strawberry jam when I was on holiday, and it was divine.
