Whilst we were away in our touring caravan over last weekend we needed to open a tin of peas for dinner guess what no tin opener, shops shut what a pain this got me thinking of all the tins stored at home as preps, today I purchased 4 tin openers just in case.

1) I am glad I have a first aid kit (thanks to the motivation that this forum has given me) as I cut myself on the blades of the new cheap ebay purchased food processor and the first aid kit had loads of sticking plasters in it. So the first thing I am gonna buy this week is more plasters, germaline and the like to keep myself stocked up.
2) I am gong to add learning how to make my own nut butters (like peanut butters but made from any nuts and seeds) to this thread (made a successful batch today) as, if what the internet says and they do last for 4 - 6 weeks in the fridge, it might make a nice highly calorific snack food if I run out of money in the short term future (things aren't going as well with my new agency as I had hoped). As my nut butters have only one ingredient ( http://heathereatsalmondbutter.com/reci ... ut-butter/ ) they should be healthier than the rubbish you buy in the shops. Today's was made from almonds and walnuts. Apparently you can use all kinds of nuts and seeds to make this stuff and so there may be ways to make it cheaper. But my first attempt with the almonds and walnuts I have in stock was fantastic. Next I am gonna practice turning home made nut butter into a cream. Then I am going to see if I can whip it as my restricted diet doesn't allow me dairy. If what I have seen on youtube is correct and one can turn avocados into a carob chocolate whip afters, then topping it with nut whipped cream might be nice. apparently (and I have yet to verify this through experimentation) tahini is made in a similar way but with sesame seeds so I may be able to get that home made and (possibly) cheaper than in the shops.

Buying more crossbow bolts
I had not used the crossbow in a while, i forgot about the recoil and my arms flew in the air mid shot sending a bolt into the woods. Good job i don't shoot with people around for their safety and to keep my embarrassment to a minimum.

Sorting out meds and first aid supplies. Checking stuff still in date. Planning different supply locations.

For those who do not know, in such a situation just take a kitchen knife stab it through the top and saw around the lid like the can opener does. Knife steel is much harder than tin can steel and with not all that much effort you can cut the lid out. It isn't pretty but it opens the can. You do know that was a gap of a few years between the patents for tinned food and the tin-opener.
I've opened tins with a chisel, knife, bearded axe and an angle-grinder (don't recommend that last one though )

My local 99p Stores is doing sugar per kilo at 69p which is gorgeous, so I have snapped some up so I can make more alcohol fuel at home in preparation for any power cuts etc when the autumn / winter comes.
