Thanks for that heads-up Nick. I need a load for another few batches of ale.
Currently , I am putting together a 'Hotel-Bag', something mentioned a while ago by one of the ladies here, if I recall correctly. We have a bag of clothes and shoes for the three of us here now at Chez Jansman. On top of that I want a bag with toiletries, phone charger, cash etc. etc. ( the Hotel Bag) in case of evacuation/fire etc. which is a very plausible situation. In fact I will ask for opinions on the contents of this bag in the EDC/BOB section .
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Made up 8 jars of meat with the canner. This is not for long term storage, but just to make the meat last for a few more weeks and thus to cut down food production costs.

Got the sticking plasters I promised myself I would get to keep the first aid kit topped up with good stuff. "window shopped" for cold cures ahead of winter coming in and am trying to work out what kinds of ailments I want to be able to avoid and treat.
Also got myself 4 more kilner jars and another pack of disk lids. I plan on buying small quantities to help with cash flow and then when I get some more bigger cash, to do a bulk online order. Seriously planning on doing more home canned and home dehydrated foods to help avoid allergens as well as maintaining long lasting stocks of foods. This is gonna take discipline and time management big time.
The kilner jars I got this time are the full liter capacity which makes more sense when we consider how much footprint they take up in the fridge when I make my own nut milks (or "mylks" of you want to use the "in crowd" jargon).
I still have to save up for more stuff such as the vacuum packer I have been promising myself for years with the kilner jar lid attachment for my dehydrated food stores that I am planning on making.
Then there is the question of how I am going to do my dehydration in the future and whether I need a bigger dehydrator or just get another westfalia cheap one and stack the trays to make more drying area. But I don't know if that is going to reduce the overall temperature too much to reduce the drying ability of the device.

Having read desertman's posts about UK Preparedness Month, I thought I'd look up what is going on in my local area. The most useful part of my search was finding last year's Emergency Response and Recovery Strategy by the local Resilience Forum. One of the major risks of my local area is flooding and I remembered that I had the following Flood Map saved on my computer:
I love that flood map! I've lost the linkie to that twice, which must say something or other, though my present accommodations are still safe even with that big rise that they've pre-programmed in. Thanks for the find, Mouse.
As for my own stuff, I bought a little halogen oven this week - only £15, much cheaper than usual. Bulked the free delivery out by ordering fuses, rechargeable batteries, and a slightly weird one for me as I don't have a car - a petrol-safe jerry can. But it was that or pay for delivery! If nothing else, it'd be a good trade item
OK - here goes, because I've been offline for a while!
I've been growing, growing and growing veg, making chutneys and jams & foraging for summer fruits.
I've upped my stocktaking habits and bullied my OH into referring to the stock more when making meals to keep everything rotating.
The damp at the back of my house is now all fixed! The roofing guys are coming to fix my roof next month and that's us wind and watertight for another wee while.
I'm going back to work part time - which is fab and a huge relief as I've been worried I wouldn't be able to.
...and most importantly - we have a new member of the family. Max is our new prep. He is a 14 week old black lab who is fab and already a wee chap that's loyal to the family pack, so exactly as we wanted.
I've been scouring through OS maps looking for BOLs on the nightshift. My work colleagues are giving me shifty looks but a good, solid frown in their direction gets rid of them
