Not sure if this is right section. If not, sorry in advance...
Thinking of makinng up a bag for my car which I take to and from work everyday. Especially since snow may be coming up in the next 1-2 months I'm really looking into this

Re: Car Bag
how far are you driving to and from work?
if it gets bad is walking home out the question?
how technically able are you pointless carting tools about if you dont know one end of a spanner to the other
you need to tailor your kit accordingly....
but regardless...
ensure your car is well serviced and the fuel tank is kept as full as possible.. that way it will run happily and you have fuel to run the car to run the heaters...
spare screen wash
de icer
scraper
shovel
jump leads
tow rope or strap
snow chains / socks
torch
decent sleeping bag or blankets
phone charger
some water and some form of food
first aid kit

Thanks for the list Andy. It would be plausable for me to walk home yes and have had to do it on 2 occasions in the past which is why I'm finally taking action. Additional suggestions for walking home?
Imagine society as a sinking ship.
Most of the passengers are ignoring the warnings and denying that the ship will sink.
A select few however, are already in a lifeboat.

Re: Car Bag
something like depending what you wear to work if you work in a office and wear dress trousers and a white shirt with tie you will need a full change of clothing .. if you say work in construction and go to work in thermals and warm clothing anyway your almost there...
Decent walking boots are a must ideally goretex lined to keep your feet dry
wool socks
shoe chains

Re: Car Bag
It might be obvious but i'll say it anyway. Make sure you wear in your walking boots before you store them for emergencies, you don't want to add blisters to your problems!
Re: Car Bag
Figure I'll put the list of what I carry in the car::
Standard with car:
Full Size spare wheel with all terrain tyre mounted
Wheel Wrench + Locking wheel nut
Flat headed screw driver (to prize off the covers to the rear door latch to manually open if the lock gets stuck)
4mm hex key (manual override for sunroof)
Spare 10 Amp fuse
Spare 20 Amp fuse.
Scissor Jack (which gets greased yearly)
My own additions:
High Viz jacket with sleeves
Thermal gloves + hat
Tow Rope rated to 2 metric ton
Tow Pole rated to 2 metric ton – Which can fit the wheel wrench should I need more leverage
Jump Leads + Jump Pack when it gets colder
Roll of TP
1 Litre of spare oil
1 litre of spare coolant
Fix-a-flat for 16+ inch wheels
Maglite – LED with 3 D Cells inside
Pen knife
Pain Killers: Paracetemol, codeine, Ibuprofen and a bit of any medication anyone in the car might be on
Tyre Pressure and Tyre Depth Gauge
Cleaning cloth to wipe glass if needed
De Icer
Ice Scraper
Usually a fleece/jacket in the car
Usually a can of drink in the car
When there’s Snow on the ground:
Hard plastic boot liner that covers the sides
Shovel
Thermos with hot drink
Universal Screw in tow-eye to be able to tow others that need a helping hand getting up a hill/through deep snow if they don’t have one
Hiking boots if I’m not already wearing them
5 gallon petrol can with spout (or 20 litre jerry can depending where I’m going)
Needle Nose Pliers
3/8 Socket Set
Spanners 8-17mm
Vehicle Preps:
The car holds around 3-3.5 Litres of screenwash so it’s rare for it to get below half using a winter mixture good for -15C (to take into account the windchill factor on the windscreen at speed)
LED sidelights, in case they need to be left on for a while when parked up
Uprated halogen bulbs in spot lights
Winter Tyres fitted in October. All lights checked and wipers checked and cleaned at this time
Built in Sat Nav with all of Europe and DVD player with a movie for entertainment
Do need to add a first aid kit, which I’m currently building up myself at the moment
