Not posted on this thread forever, but this week I've started my first home brew beer. Bought it as a complete kit in Wilkos for £20 which had everything you need except brewers sugar, bottles, caps and a capping tool. Also found a specialist home brew shop 5 minutes from my house which is a bonus!

First fermentation should be completed either tonight or tomorrow, then I can move on to the 2nd stage which is bottling them with half a teaspoon of sugar in each bottle and leaving for 2 weeks...

i had the same beer kit for fathers day get a tap for the siponing tube and put about 3" of siponing tube on the end to go in the bottle as it stops the beer throffing when bottleing i us the 2lts pop bottles from lidels the freeways brand as when pouring in to a jug the bottles do not bulge in and disturbe the yeast on the bottom of the bottles been home brewing for over 15 years now and one of the best beer kits is coppers from the homebrew shop they sell on line £11.22 each for lager free dilivery with oders over £65 i use nomal white sugar as i have found no diffrent to it as berwing sugar and its half the price for steralising i use baby steralising tablets 1 tab per 2lts bottle for 30 min per bottle reuse the water for more than 1 bottle as it is good to steralies for 24 hours and i use a catering 5 gram spoon to bottle as a house old spoon is knot as acurut and use 1 spoonfull of white sugar per pint or as i do 4 spoons for a 2lts bottle as this gives better head and body hope this helps ;)

Today I have started to sort my workshop into some kind of order. Reshelved it , re- stowed consumables( spares, nuts and bolts, etc.) yesterday I fixed the oven door with the stovebolts I KNEW I had! I found them eventually! Hence the reorganisation. I am going to work my way around all of the outbuildings, then the house. I suspect we all have more stuff than we realise.

From a prepping angle, that oven repair saved me a small fortune both in cash and inconvenience. I tend to carry a lot of "Next Level" repair -type stuff as it has helped in the times when I have been poor. I do not kid myself I could never be poor again.

Its easier for two to cope together then just one alone.
Great prep!
Maybe getting my OH on board should be in next weeks preps. It was a right battle just to get him to put a winter car kit I'd packed for him in his car when he was commuting half way round the m25, even breaking down 50 miles from home at 9pm at night didn't persuade him

I haven't done a fat lot this week, I'm visiting family helping with a house clearance. Tomorrow my Dad is going through common radio repairs, aerials and rewiring with me. I'm guessing rewiring will just be some old lamps but I've gotta learn.

I have built a new workbench today, specifically for bicycle maintenance. It means I can leave my wheel jig permanently set up. I do a lot of road riding and break bikes often! I also enjoy messing about with 'em.
