I've recently read this article about hurricane preparedness and food storage - http://www.freezedryguy.com/EmergencyPr ... dness.aspx

I've also re-organized my stocks and started my little garden at our backyard.

A Condor Rip Away EMT Pouch.

Here's a review on it:

This will hold a trauma kit, that a trained Medic or Doctor could use. NO drugs included.

At a pinch if TEOTWAWKI occured my lapsed Team Medic training might kick in.

I have other kits for small boo boos and travel. I am trained on the use of these.

I will be getting FA trained again next year.

Love the kit, pseudonym, including a name tag too.

I've been looking at what forageable trees are in my neighbourhood - around the cemetery, actually  there's a linear nature reserve around it - lots of sweet chestnut trees.

Also been skip diving for lots of old roof tiles, as an old pub was renovated to be a local mini-supermarket - they go well in helping set up new fruit and veg beds.

Am on the final steps of making a rocket stove - put in a request at the local chippie to get another big tin to do another one for my sister - the one I have now, it was from a big Approved Foods order, and though it takes me a long time, it works.

It's my birthday today and one of my presents was the Reader's Digest book What To Do In An Emergency.

Going on my efforts to lower my House bills, I've:

Booked a home visit for next week to see if I can have a Multi-fuel woodburner fitted. I'll keep you posted.

Finally got a date for my double glazing to be fitted - 6 weeks over estimate though

Thank you for the review of the Condor pouch, I was looking at one of these for my larger pack first aid kit and I think I'll get one on your recommendation.

What sort of multi-fuel woodburner are you opting for? I've been considering switching from oil to a wood biomass boiler for heating and hot water. The savings for my home will be in the region of £1200 a year on oil plus the RHI incentive which for us will be in the region of £2000 per annum. At the moment my head is bursting with facts and figures on boilers, the Green Deal and the RHI. You probably know already the RHI has been finalised for domestic installations. If I can share some of the knowledge oozing out of my ears, just shout.
I recently experienced Plymouth City centre so that's why I prep.

Not my you-tube review. They do hold a lot of kit. I like the ability to rip it away from the outside of my main pack, and the fact you can open it out flat to gain access to all the contents.

As it will only be for one room I've been told a 5Kw wood/anthracite will suffice. It all depends on the survey though. Thanks for the offer. :)

Happy birthday Le Mouse!
Pseudonym, you will not regret the double glazing. They talk about payback time being xx years. Forget that. Payback starts when you get it installed. Do not get me started on multifuel burners. I have had a couple for a good few years, and they are good for fuel security-my first reason for installing. They ARE messy(at times),they DO take a bit of work, but when there is a powercut, or gas goes up again, it makes you one smug git!
