Fishing question

Post by junmist »

Just a quick question for those in the know :) Is cast netting legal in this country. Just asking as I know that I can't use a fish trap and just wondered if I could use this meathead as I am not the most patent of people so rod and line fishing is out for me. Also if it is legal where would you get a net form.

I don't know (but would also like to find out), my best guess though is not in fresh water

It seems that pretty much all legal inland fishing requires a rod of some kind.

You might be able to use Cast nets from a beach or WHY, but I don't know.

BTW Does anyone know the legal status of yo-yo reels?
I'm assuming they're also on the 'naughty-list'

Have a look at his thread as it states aanything other than a rod and line is Illegal. http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31745

As mentioned above, anything short of a rod and reel are prohibited but to be honest I don't see much use for the 'Yo-yo Reels' you can make traps and snares that would be just as affective.

Well apparently the law on this is a bit grey but there is a common law right for anyone to take fish from the sea :D by any means weather it is with rod and line or nets as long as you do not sell them or use a powered boat. However :( there are loads of bylaws that you have to know about. But if you contact the Marine Fishers Agency or the Sea Fishers Committees they should be able to tell you for the area that you are looking at. Taken form http://www.sacn.org.uk/Articles/Is_It_Legal.html So just need to know the area you want to practice in and we should be ok  Unless some one knows different. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rG9piGqqHQ

Correct apart from one thing, you can sell the fish, and you can use a powered boat, but if you use a powered boat you can't sell the fish unless it's a registered fishing vessel with quotas and all the rest of it.
