Re: Wavian Jerry Cans for storing unleaded petrol

Apologies if you already know but petrol "goes off" after a while (can be as short as a couple of months). I found this out many years ago when my petrol mower wouldn't start after being stored all winter. You can get various brands of stabiliser for petrol from most car Accessory shops ;...

Re: UK version of gamma lids?

Is this the sort of thing you mean?..... Neoflam Food Storer https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71TbT+CDhjL._AC_SX679_.jpg Asda sell them - though I think the largest size is 'only' 4.5l & they cost £7.50. https://groceries.asda.com/search/neoflam%20storer I bought a couple around September las...

Re: Underground coating

A suitable coating: how about fibreglass? Google 'sheathing a boat' eg http://www.robbins.co.uk/pdf%20files/sheathing_guide.pdf https://www.ecfibreglasssupplies.co.uk/topic/SheathingBoatsWithFibreglass This is for discussion and IS NOT a 'how to'! Sandblast the steel (resin adheres brilliantly with ...

Re: Motorhome prepping

One thing to be aware of if converting a van is that insurance companies can be a bit funny about DIY conversions and they may only be willing to insure it as a van rather than as a camper. When we did our conversion 11 years ago insurance wasn't a problem. Can't remember who we used (think they we...

Re: Motorhome prepping

OP - have you looked into van conversions at all? If not, have a search on the Tube some of them are a better standard than your generic camper. And it seems you get more bang for your buck when you're converting one yourself (if that's something you'd be partial to). I love the idea of converting ...

Re: Motorhome prepping

As a 'cheaper' way into motorhome-ing we bought a £4000 van (LWB Citroen Relay aka FIAT Ducato) & did a home conversion. Couple of windows, lined & insulated basic kitchen, basic seating/ beds, separate loo/shower spent shade over £1000. We used it for two major trips 1st being two months (U...

Re: Back yard

Thanks Triffid. It's an ongoing project. I have fitted PIR lights at the front and back now. This week I've my handyman friend coming round to see if the bulkhead lights I have around the yard can be replaced with PIR versions. We'll also be talking about reinforcing inner and outer doors, and crea...

Re: Garage Door Security Tip

If you have one of those Garadoor type up-and over garage door with internal access & a locking handle you can disconnect the wire to the central handle so that the door can only be opened from inside. (ie don't use the locking mechanism). Why would you do this? Well, there are only a limited nu...

Re: A heat exchanger.

Matt, the other issue with my flue is that it's already in place and not going to be dismantled. Pipe bending spring ;) , and good luck getting it back out the pipe afterwards as they are a pita. J Agree. Complete PITA In the 'olden' days (before pipe bending springs) plumbers would fill the pipe w...
