Re: Straw Poll. How much food do you have in reserve? How well do you stock rotate?

Wild edible plants are worth a look. Nearly half the common plants are edible, to some degree or other. The most obvious one is nettles - very common and easy to ID. They won't substitute a block of cheese, but they are nutritious. Rich in iron, vitamin C and protein. Eat young fresh tops before the...

Re: Traditional way of lighting - making rush lights.

Welcome back Mushroom. First, a quick safety tip: NEVER MELT WAX OVER DIRECT HEAT, ALWAYS USE A WATER BATH OR DOUBLE BOILER I've seen a wax fire and they're bad, like napalm filled chip-pan bad. If you're dipping candles use the widest container you can, this is because the wax level in a narrow con...

Re: Straw Poll. How much food do you have in reserve? How well do you stock rotate?

I found another useful link yesterday - and have finally started another batch of bacon using the belly pork that was lurking in my freezer. https://www.uaf.edu/ces/publications/database/food/freezer-fails.php I was browsing around the temperatures to see how this could work safely in a power outag...

Re: Krank/batteries DAB/FM radio

For the Mods

Might it be an idea to have "Solar" as a sub-board of "Equipment" ?

I'm sure a link to something you've bought or are thinking of buying is fine.
If it is for something you're selling then no.

There will be a Mod come along in a minute to correct me if I'm wrong

Is this solely to dry her hair? One shower / drying session and phone charging ? On low power (trips on full) it'll get 35 mins run time Screenshot_20241013-191809.png Added bonus from nearly flat it'll recharge in about 2hrs from the car cig lighter (average holiday running about visiting places) ...

Power banks for Dummies

This is me asking not teaching. A question from Herself "What do I get if I want to run a hairdryer with no hook-up" So, what should I recommend buying as an off-grid power setup for short term use, this would be weekends on campsites with no hook-up or camping on sites that aren't regular...
