Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 12
I've fitted a couple of led striplights in the workshop. I did have a fluorescent above the bench but managed to hit it with a window I was making. Not having a spare tube I asked my daughter's boyfriend to save me one if he came across one in his job as an electrician. He came back with a couple of...

Re: Food for bug out? Quantities
I would say if you're taking a car then cram it as full as possible with as much food , water and other stuff that you can but be prepared to lose most of it if you need to abandon the car , then carry as much as you are comfortable with rather than aiming for a certain amount of days worth. Again i...

Re: Food for bug out? Quantities
Too many variables to say. When I was of Military fighting age, I would say 7-10 days worth on my back not including water. Agreed far to many variables. Middle of winter is going to be harder to carry a large amount than it is in summer . A fit young soldier can carry a week or mores worth but the...

Re: Four candles (well 3) UCO candles to be precise
Yes to be honest it seemed like quite an expensive system for what is basically a,candle in a,glass, sided box. As,Christmas decorations some years, ago I made some lanterns out of offcuts of ply and glass and I still have them and they don't need specific candles , anything will do...

Re: Four candles (well 3) UCO candles to be precise
Following with great interest. I do like my uco's I'd never heard of a UCO candlelier, but this intrigues me. No I'd not heard of them either , I was trying to work out what UCO stood for and ended up googling it  Some years ago a friend and myself set up a little candle making exercise thinki...

Re: Straw Poll. How much food do you have in reserve? How well do you stock rotate?
I know the sort you mention and wouldn’t be surprised if they were armed as well so could pretty much corner the market so to speak. A customer of mine has a terrier that is always on the lookout for rabbits and has caught a number . Getting her to drop the rabbit is another thing and when she final...

Re: Straw Poll. How much food do you have in reserve? How well do you stock rotate?
Check out Gamekeeper John on YouTube (based in the UK) for hunting with a slingshot. I brought home a pheasant today from my morning dog walk, 12mm BB to the head. If nothing else this does demonstrate the need to practice with one’s choice of weapon , practice , practice , practice. I’m decent wi...

Re: Straw Poll. How much food do you have in reserve? How well do you stock rotate?
Not wanting to piss on anyone’s bonfire but this idea of going out hunting with a bow or whatever is close to being a prepper fantasy. Hunting anything large is going to take a decent poundage bow not the lightweight ones most use . I’ve got a 70lb longbow that might just be ok but I’ve also got a c...

Re: Straw Poll. How much food do you have in reserve? How well do you stock rotate?
Since answering this thread I’ve been pondering on the question and have come to a conclusion that the question itself is a bit too vague to give a proper answer. This one rather assumes everything else stays pretty much the same and we just stop going out of the house.. As with a lot of things prep...

Re: Traditional way of lighting - making rush lights.
I don’t throw anything out! It has to have legs and walk away by itself. I’m with you on the tins front though I’ve never made it to 12 years … I bet it didn’t taste that much different? If anything it was better than I remember . I never really liked rice pudding as a kid . It was a texture thing ...
