The plastic components of the Berkey is the weakspot with them. If you have the choice, go with the metal spigot, didn't know they actually made them. Had mine for around 8 or so years and so long as you treat it with care, the plastic parts will be ok. Overtightening of the screws WILL cross thread...

Sorry for the late reply, but yeah, as stated..... the hight the gen the better, but boy oh boy they go up in price drastically... Depends on what your intended use is going to be..... If most Generation 1's will do the task of general security and inquisitiveness quite well... going up the ranks......
