Re: A reliable button compass?

I had a low cost silva plastic watch band compass (possibly suunto, Im pretty sure was a Silva though). It was terrible when it was new (the compass card would stick slightly in the housing), it was a ass to use because it's at a funny angle on your wrist, and it dried out after a couple of years of...

Re: LORA ((Meshtastic network))

Recently received a Heltec T114 V2, kit version with antenna, case and GPS module, battery has to be sourced separately, I'm running it directly off a powerbank for now. On outskirts of London I get a 3-4 other nodes detected within a couple of skips, if I bump up the number of hops, I can get 9-10....

Re: Questions about what folks think on the Comm's side of things

Okay, As the Subject states a bit of a question. What do folks think about communications and equipment to do that with? As with modern radios, 3D printing, and micro generation abilities, there is a lot that can be done on a budget and even more if folks pool resources or focus resources for bette...

Re: Krank/batteries DAB/FM radio

In my opinion, for emergency use, DAB is too power hungry. If there is a "shelter in place and tune in" order, information will be disseminated on FM. There are a few options on how to power these things. I generally avoid built in solar panels as they're usually too small to be of use, an...

Re: In the event of nuclear war...

Looks like the Norwegians are taking the threat seriously and asking citizens to prepare a week's worth of supplies.

I'll not link any specific news article, it's available from your favourite internet serch providers...

Re: Blackhawk Under the Radar iPad & Passport Holder

Put your devices in aeroplane mode in these cases, else they'll try to boost the WiFi, Bluetooth and phone signal so as to reach a connection, this will drain the battery.

Re: Mains Inverter.

Numbers will be slightly better south of London and slightly to significantly worse as you go north. One of my thoughts about my future solar set up is that invariably the s*** will hit the proverbial in the middle of winter.... 80w laptop just for a SDR seems quite a lot, have you looked at alterna...

Re: Mains Inverter.

Just some thoughts which might help, I'm not criticising and I'd love to do something similar one day. Your setup might be a little light for what you want to achieve. 150Ah batteries at, I assume, 13.5V = 2025Wh Just for some ballpark numbers, I've used an online calculator (solar Wizard.org.uk) to...

Re: Gas canisters

There are stoves that sit on top of those tall thin canisters?! Doesn't sound very stable! Mine sits on a backpacking type, but I have a stabaliser. Remote are better really. They fit these Screenshot_20240706-174827.png Seen a few in the past which are not as robust one reviewer has a cheap china ...
