Tom, try looking for Bormioli, Le Parait or Liefheit jars too. They all have two part lids like Mason or Kilner, but would probably be cheaper for you as they are European. Thanks for the suggestions! I knew about Bormioli but buyers revies have been mixed regarding being really air tight?! I guess...

From your description of the 'Weck' jars they sound pretty similar, here's a picture They come in all shapes and sizes and you can get replacement seals etc pretty easy. Ikea do a cheaper version ...
