Re: Lidl stuff
Hi, I bought the Lansky sharpening kit off amazon £30 with 5 stones and I must say when I saw it I thought it looked cheaply made. However it's great, it's resurrected the knife I destroyed on the sharpener above and also sharpened a big Bowie knife I have, to the paper slicing stage. It's really ea...

Re: Lidl stuff
It's crap for knives.
It has destroyed one of my cheaper ones and I'll never use it for knife sharpening again.
It will be very useful for garden shears, chisels, axes and drill bits. Just not knives :-/

Decathlon sports superstores
Anyone been in a Decathlon store? I was in the Sheffield one today and spent a few quid on some real bargains. You can get a whole host of gear covering every sport / outdoor activity, for much cheaper than regular sports shops. I bought: A Really nice looking olive green hammocks for a tenner Lots ...

Re: Lidl stuff
Hi, I bought an electric knife sharpener from Lidl this week, £15 with a spare blade, and also a bow saw with spare blade £5 The sharpener may not be any good but it looks like an exact replica of a plasplugs one I had which was great for sharpening chisels and garden shears. I didn't try knives wit...

Re: Woodland use
Hi, Upon closer inspection the woodland is approx 60% Beech and the rest Pine with a few sycamores and possibly one or two other varieties of tree. Beech is a great firewood I'm led to believe so I will be chopping a few trees down and seasoning a supply of firewood for next winter. I really want to...

Pruning saw
Just a little heads up but Lidl are selling a range of gardening equipment this Thursday including folding pruning saws at £3 a pop.
I might buy myself one.

Re: Survival tin
Arzosah, I think you are making out I'm in some way being negative towards these tins, but as I originally said I'm not. A few of the comments back have been really informative and mentioned the reason they are carried, and now (as a newcomer) i understand why. I think my tin will only ever be part ...

Haha!
I can see myself wandering around the woods wearing nothing but those and pair of sturdy hiking boots.

Re: Survival tin
I agree with the last comment. Things would have to have gotten really really bad if I were left with just the survival tin to get by on. I'd probably last 24hrs! As suggested though it will form part of my EDC, I.e my get home bag which (when I fully complete it) will contain enough to keep me goin...

Survival tin
I'm not trying to be derisory or anything here, i am genuinely interested, but can you seriously think of a SHTF scenario when all you are left with is your survival tin and contents in the middle of nowhere ? How many people would actually be able to survive using the contents of the tin or is it m...
