Re: Winter 2022 what are you doing to get ready
Thanks GillyBee for the detailed reply. I'm very much against having 'all the gear and no' idea so I will start off cheap as you suggest. Currently I just want to know enough to be able to repair things as it is a very useful skill to have for both everyday life as well as if SHTF, so I'll check onl...

Re: Winter 2022 what are you doing to get ready
I was wondering whether to make a couple of adult size "oodies". The eldest son would certainly live in one. There is a free pattern available here for anyone who sews. Adults: https://doitbetteryourself.club/product/the-billie-wearable-blanket-sewing-pattern/ Kids: https://doitbetteryour...

Re: Winter 2022 what are you doing to get ready
I've bought the kids an oversized hoodie/blanket each so that they can keep warm while still being able to use their arms and get around to play etc. I've also had a bit of an audit of my 'power cut preps' and will fill any gaps there. Other than that it's mainly looking out for things I need so tha...

Re: A great purchase
I've bought these batteries before and I can't fault them, they are excellent value for money.
A word on Amazon reviews though. Be careful as increasingly I've noticed that people have been reviewing things before they've actually used them - which seems pretty pointless to me.

I've placed my first ever order for the new allotment... some seed potatoes. I've been saving egg boxes for a while so when they arrive I can chit them in the spare room until the weather is suitable for planting. I'm looking forward to spending many hours at the allotment this year.

Re: And sow it begins.
Unfortunately it's too wet here at the moment to do anything worthwhile on the allotment (I've only just got it so am looking forward to later on in the year). I sowed some basil, parsley and chives in pots for the kitchen windowsill at the weekend if that counts

Cheap veg
Last year I was pretty chuffed with myself when I found that ASDA were selling carrots and broccoli for just 20p. I make a lot of soup so I stocked up. Apparently there is a bit of a price war between the supermarkets this year and you can get the following from Aldi: Maris Piper potatoes (2.5kg) - ...

Re: How will YOU keep warm on cold winter nights?
I've read somewhere before (I think it was on this forum) that putting a tent up indoors to sleep in is a good way to keep warm if you have no central heating. I've not tried it myself but if it's true then you wouldn't need a particularly good tent as it would be inside, so just a cheap £20 one wo...

Re: energy suppliers
Being a bit of a geek/techie I quite fancied the idea of smart meters, and have read about people that can choose a "free electric" day etc. until I discovered that their minute-by-minute knowledge of your usage also means that further down the line they can actually start charging you MO...
