Re: Bonjour a tous!
Access to the French health service is free - for the actual treatment. For 'hotel' services - such as hospital stay food etc you have to pay, and all of us here have an insurance policy called a 'mutuel' which we pay into each month. So, if I for example have to get my appendix whipped out, the sta...

Re: Bonjour a tous!
Yes, I live in a tiny village in central western France about 40 miles South of Angers in a very rural location. I am lucky enough to have a biggish garden with 2 wells and plenty of hot sunny days to grow tomatoes, melons etc. I moved here about 5 years ago after taking early retirement from the NHS.

Bonjour a tous!
Hello fellow preppers. Although not a 'new' member as such I have been away from this forum for nearly 2 years and thought I would become active again. Good to see that my account wasn't turned off! Anyway, still prepping, still growing, and still unsuccessfully trying to go off grid!

Re: are you planning to hunker down to avoid ppl contact due to covirus
This is a virus we know little about as yet. If it behaves like some other viruses and stays with the host for life, i.e. like chickenpox, measles etc then there is no point in social isolation until we get a vaccine. Which is about 9 months away at best. As a working musician I have little choice o...

Re: How would you cope?
Wind knowing power lines out. Floods to a certain extent. I know year on year the climate is getting worse and worse. My biggest fear is power being out and for more then 24 hours. We are too dependant on electricity and the internet. No power, no charging of mobile phones, laptops or tablet device...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.
It was sunny down here yesterday so I built myself a couple of 'mini greenhouses' to put over some of my raised beds. With the worst of the winter yet to come hopefully that will keep the frost off my (still growing!) salad greens. A full size greenhouse built from reclaimed wood and glass is on the...

Re: New comer.
Hmmm... Assuming you're not pulling my leg, any ground coffee is fine, but my personal favourite is 'Rich Italian' by Taylors of Harrogate. I've heard it said that getting actual coffee beans and grinding them yourself immediately prior to brewing up gives you the best health benefits (Coffee is off...

Re: New comer.
Strong coffee is recognised as a good broncho - dilator. On the occasions I have foolishly run out of Ventolin and found breathing becoming a bit tight, one cup of (very) strong coffee and - give it 10 mins - easy breathing. It really does work! EDIT: It has to be the real stuff. None of your 'Mello...

Yep, mine is a .410. Very useful for small stuff and varmints, and reliable. An Italian made 'falco'.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 6.
Water, water and more water. I have just finished turning my shed (hand built from largely reclaimed wood) into a water collector. One of the local supermarkets has an offer on for cheap, sturdy plastic buckets with a 350 litre capacity so I have added these to my wilko water butts as it looks like ...
