Re: Jenny Makes Bread!

Making Bread again! This time, comparing 'Plain Flour' and 'Strong Bread Flour' TLDR: Bread from either is almost identical. I currently only store 'Plain All Purpose Flour' in my extended Pantry, because, it's much cheaper and I'm frugal (as a ducks bum!) :) I figured that I should compare bread ma...

Re: A Week Living Off Rations

Your staples tins are nicely varied, good one. Can I ask about hot drinks? I know most of my family would throw a fit without some tea or even instant coffee ... Sure. I drink Coffee & Mr JJ drinks Tea. My extended pantry has approx 30x200g Jars of instant coffee and 1500 Teabags: Over a year's...

Re: Value Range foods compared

We stopped buying sweet & sour sauce after discovering how easy it is to make from a small can of pineapple chunks, tomato ketchup, soy sauce and brown sugar plus a bit of cornflour to thicken. All of those are storecupboard so this may be useful if you get a problem with the jarred version any...

Re: Value Range foods compared

A quick note about Sweet & Sour sauce in Jars, something I hold in the extended pantry. My stores comprise about 1/3 Uncle Ben's, 1/3 ALDI's own, 1/3 LIDL's own. ALDI's & LIDL's always needs augmenting with bits of onion, carrot and tomato puree to get close to the standard of Uncle Bens. Bo...

Re: Jenny Makes Bread!

Next practice will feature flatbreads too. Ash cakes, shovel cakes, camp bread, chimney cake, damper, flat bread, batter pudding etc etc All good uses for flour and as a way of getting cereal into the diet. Pancakes are my favourite for ease of making, followed by some sort of flour and oil fritter...

Re: Jenny Makes Bread!

You really need the second prove.... Jenny: You still did a great job even though your flour wasn't ideal..... Better then my first loaf which would probably be just as edible today as when I baked it Thanks, I've made better bread before, but this was a practice run for my upcoming week on long li...

Re: Jenny Makes Bread!

It's a fine line between too wet and sticky and too dry Dust hands with flour and keep dusting with flour till its not sticky but not cracking when squished into a ball Once proved did you knock it back? https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p008s519#:~:text=After%20bread%20has%20been%20left,soft%2C%20s...
