Re: Geiger Counters - Recommendations

I even grew up in the 70's & 80's ten miles away from greenham common. I'm starting to think I didn't pay enough attention to my education at school 😉 😉 😉

Re: Geiger Counters - Recommendations

I'm totally ignorant of this and apologies if this comes across wrong- but what's the benefit of removing your doors to build a separate shelter inside your house? Surely the amount of material the radiation has to pass through would still be the same?

Re: Advice on how to get organised

Hi Ben, you'll likely get a huge range of answers. Personally I'm of the "fit & forget" mindset - ie. I'm stocked up on various tinned meat and dried goods such as rice, beans, pasta, lentils etc. A lot of this stuff is past its bbe date but I'm not bothered by that & will happily ea...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 12

We're at 600ft, veg are grown in raised beds with a significant "freeboard" to try and minimise the wind. Also means we can cover the beds with plastic sheet to create a sort of cloche to extend the growing season. I grow garlic every year - nothing fancy, I just but supermarket bulbs and ...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 12

I’ve never grown garlic - is it easy to grow? Supposedly :? I think that's true as long as the soil is well-drained. My soil is clay (dig up a lump and call it a brick, that sort of soil) and its recommended to use grit. Don't have any grit  but I have a lot of roasted and bashed up eggshells...

Re: Hello - new member

Getting 3 weeks food & water for your family is an excellent start and 99% ahead of the rest of the world. Keep it on the down low though so people don't come knocking in times of need (if it does happen barter & exchange is the way to go instead of outright gifts). Make sure pets have equal...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

We use a combination of old soft drink bottles (coke, diluting juice, Tonic etc) and give them a wash then put in a dark cupboard. Also 4x 25litre containers filled with tap water and stored outside. Part water storage, part exercise regime- on a weekly basis I carry them 50m to the outside tap, emp...
