Re: Advice for a hopeless gardener
In other news, OH has orders to pee in the composter at least once per day :D :D ( It's in a fairly discreet spot). He earns one bottle of beer per event. But he's also under orders not to be caught by the neighbours. I know. I know. I should too, but, well, you know. :D :D Hewee works much better t...

Re: Windmills (well turbine's)
Lots of boats have a small wind turbine to keep the engine batteries charged. Might be worth having a look at some chandlers' websites

My daughter says you develop a taste for them after a few nights out!! But it's nothing more than a bath bomb with aspirin. You can get the same result from a teaspoon of bicarb in a glass of fizzy water and a paracetamol. Much cheaper ( although Poundland sell small packets quite cheaply)

So glad I married a practical man. He was an accountant but did an engineering degree and his heart is in pottering. Our fridge is 35 years old and still going strong because he has replaced the thermostat at least three times. It's a Husqvarna which is no longer a brand that you can buy but it take...

Unless it's peelings in the compost bin. Why pay the council for composted green waste (which will probably import Japanese knotweed)?

Re: How is everyone dealing with rising prices?
I fixed and they went bust in October so now I'm with Shell. And tearing my hair out because they are so incompetent. As soon as I can get their errors sorted I will switch even though it will be from one standard rate to another, just to get away from them

If you find normal thermals a bit too bulky, silk is the answer. It's really thin but very warm without making you overheated. Lands End often have sales which makes it (a bit) more affordable. It's still an investment buy but I have a couple which are 20 plus years old and still going strong

I remember that film Lil. You said at the time he should have put honey on the cut, it's a natural antibiotic. I've got a very minor health niggle at the moment. My husband said do you think you should see the doctor? I laughed like a drain. See? A doctor? My SIL died last month from an inoperable c...

Re: Meat tax
The Eat Lancet Commission published guidelines for a Planetary Health Diet a year or so ago. When you add up their daily recommendations for animal protein they are remarkably like WW2 rations. Stands to reason that those amounts would be sustainable in a UK context given that the country had to pro...

Re: Rising energy prices mitigation
I was with Pure Planet on a fix which in itself was a bit eye watering compared to what I paid last year, and now of course I am with Shell energy on their default tariff. Roughly 21 p for electricity and 4p for gas. Sharp intake of breath. So I've been trying to analyse my usage by keeping more det...
