Re: AAA Batteries

I use Amazon alkaline batteries. They're great - brilliant value. Their NiMH are not as good as eneloops though

Re: Keeping the lights on when the grid is down

Is Tesla really the only UK supplier of this kind of system???? No, Ecoflow have something similar, but the features are different. Ecoflow is a primarily mobile system, coupled to a domestic residence. Tesla is designed to be home use only. https://uk.ecoflow.com/products/smart-home-panel?variant=...

Re: Keeping the lights on when the grid is down

. As far as I can tell from US forums, the solaredge/powerwall combo should work so long as we can get some on how UK regulations apply to offline grid scenarios All your installer needs to do is source a Backup Gateway 2 from Tesla. It intelligently senses power outages and isolates the power wall...

Re: Compost heap safety

It's perfectly possible for damp vegetation to catch fire. Damp hay does it in haystacks (so called rick fires). I'm sure we've all seen steam rising from a midden on a Winter's morning. I've got video of fresh woodchip (containing leaves) with steam pouring off it. Ultimately the process of decay g...

Re: Keeping the lights on when the grid is down

I don't know who told you that a powerwall cannot charge when the grid is down, but I suggest that you find a different company to install it! https://www.tesla.com/support/energy/powerwall/own/best-practices-during-power-outages If you have solar, your Powerwall can recharge from your solar system ...

Re: Reinstating a well

I've had a look on the forum and I can't seem to see any threads before on reinstating a well (looking up "well" brings up lots so I might have missed the relevant one). We are fortunate to be near a river (around 350m away) and our property is on raised ground and has an old well. A prev...

Re: pro / con generator v Jackery ( or similar)

Hi British Red, I'm in jansmans camp. I've banged on about this before but we were relatively badly affected by storm arwen (no power for 100 hours) and again by the next storm, about another 70 hours no power. To be honest it wasn't too much of a bother. We're a family of five ( 3 teenagers) and w...

Re: pro / con generator v Jackery ( or similar)

I have both, you've summed up pros & vons well. You are allowed to store far more than 15L of fuel provided that you notify appropriately, but I prefer using propane generators because the fuel doesn't go off and has other uses

. Attempting to work out the maths as to whether it would be cheaper to invest in LED rechargeable lanterns, use the power banks and usb bulbs, lanterns or rope lighting run off the usb power packs or just to use the camping lanterns which we already have with 3 DD batteries. AA batteries work fine...
