Re: Pakistan. .. NEXT ?

Well, have a look at this. We don’t have an EMPIRE anymore. https://consciousnessofsheep.co.uk/2022/08/12/the-self-destruction-of-yesterdays-common-sense/ pretty good article. I agree with most of it. Not sure about the bit about high energy price in the UK being due to reliance on wind + Russia sa...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

Going by my last pair of genuine ones yours will probably last longer . They are not what they were 20 years ago.... I used to sell them the quality has gone down the pan Exactly. I'll be less upset about a £25 pair of shoes disintegrating than a pair of £100+. And they do actually look more sturdy...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

And on a personal note, I just tested positive for covid - 2nd pink line arrived after 2 minutes. I'm not a happy bunny, and I'm off to bed, taking my electric fan, my kettle, my phone and my mug and a couple of teabags with me. I may be gone for some time, though not for the same reason as Captain...

Re: More pain.

Eventually the government will have to do something to help the worst effected. Hopefully anyway. I’m lucky in that the wife and I earn enough to absorb but means we’ll be unlikely to see any government help (not complaining about that btw) However that means we’ll have to cut any extra spending. N...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

I use supermarket dried green peas (Morrisons) for pea shoots. They are pretty easy treated like mustard and cress. I also realised that buying seed for sprouting got me a LOT more kale and chard seed than buying the exact same variety from the same supplier as a vegetable seed. Massive difference....

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

Sorry to hear about the Covid Arzosah, hope it's not too bad. Re seed sprouting, I've done that a few times. Should get back into it. I have two glass jars that sit at 45° for growing seed sprouts. You can also get plastic trays that go in layers. These are what I got, but I only paid half what they...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

I have a question. I ordered a small solar panel to charge my powerbank. Thing is, lipo batteries don't like heat, and the panel needs to be in the sun. So how do I charge it up without knackering it through heat? Obviously it needs to be in shade, but is a bit of cardboard going to be enough? I cou...

Re: More pain.

I must admit I don't even know how to read the new smart meter. I did it once before they started getting readings. Mine looks ok anyway. Electric is virtually the same every month all year. Gas is very low in summer and obviously a lot more in winter. I ended up £100 in credit in July but they don'...

Re: Do You Feel We Are Heading For The Perfect Storm?

I was just reading a thread by a professor who's predicting a debt crisis worse than 2008-9 this winter. He's not alone. Civil unrest is becoming a distinct possibility. After the summer holidays, the leisure sector is going to crash as people cut their spending. They were already struggling due to ...
