Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 12

I've been mostly sowing seeds and I bought an electric propagator , it doesnt seem very warm and i suspect i'll end up wanting a higher end one. Sowed the peppers and aubergines a bit late but its better than not doing them at all I hope. Keeping on with the gardening and home repairs that are cropp...

Re: Advice on how to get organised

I like these clock change ideas. I'm definitely struggling with organisation also. My spare food storage is a very deep, high up cabinet. It's stuff we regularly buy so I can just pull it out fill the 'current' food cupboard with it and buy for the store cupboard. Keeping and updating a list was just...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 12

Wow I did am epic long post even by my standards  The guy delivered today saying he used to deliver logs for firewood but said it wasn't worth the money with the time and diesel. Considering how expensive logs are I suspect you're right that they really need to recoup costs from quite large...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 12

If you can track down your local tree surgeon he may be only too happy to offload some woodchip for you for free or next to nothing. Round here they have to pay to get rid of it. I wish that were the case here! I have called and messaged a few but they all charge the same amount. I'm on arbtalk for...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 12

The new chicken run, greenhouse and the kids wendy house/basecamp (free from market place - it was supposed to be a new coop but the kids intercepted!) have all been put up this week. Working slow and steady throughout the day had me getting quite a lot done without doing myself any harm or exhausti...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 12

Had a conversation about a science topic just now with Chat GPT, that was interesting! It's like "you're right to bring that up" and types a load more. Apparently they can read a research paper in seconds. Like Google, but it can actually think. I used chat gpt to get a synopsis on the bo...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 12

I have been building a new run for the chickens. I wasn't sure if we were going to enjoy keeping chickens but it's been good so they can stay :) i'm upgrading their home and also have ordered some temporary fencing stuff so I can increase their space during the day but they will no longer have acces...

Re: Preps for pets

We just have a couple of cats and 4 chickens. We've only had the chickens since Sept so I'm still learning. In a bug out situation they would likely have to fend for themselves. We have about 4 months of layers pellets and way too much bedding built up. This year in the garden I've got a lot of thin...

Re: Hello - new member

Thanks for the welcome all. It's really good advice on calling it a hotel bag rather than a bug out bag for me. My first bug out bag had things like a hobo fishing kit, gem sas survival guide and various camping things...preparing for the least likely scenario first I think. For going up to my mum: ...

Re: Hello - new member

Thank you. I knew bail out bad didn't sound quite right! But I just couldn't get the right term to mind. Coincidently I had to quickly pack this morning as my mum was taken very ill in hospital, it's a 3 hour drive to her town. She's on the mend we think. I managed to remember medication and enough ...
