Re: Geiger Counters - Recommendations

I’ve got the GQ GMC-800 and I’m pretty happy with it. My only gripes are that the buttons feel a bit cheap when pressed and the date format is annoyingly American. More than happy with the functionality and the battery will go a week between recharges. When funds allow I’ll probably get another or p...

Re: Solar generators

After plenty of procrastination and last minute design changes, stage one is complete. 2.3 kw/h in a box with outlets rated up to 200a, switched and fused in groups so a blown fuse won’t take the whole supply down. It’s a bit on the beefy side which inspired the fake branding  https://iili.io/3...

Re: Solar generators

jennyjj01 I was originally going to go lead acid due to price, my van is lead acid and has been faultless. I bought a pair of batteries and although I knew they would be heavy it quickly became obvious two would unmanageable. I repurposed them to be a battery backup for my dads CPAP machine so they ...

Re: Solar generators

Good luck to think all the years ago I built this 12 ish years ago https://www.uk-preppers.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8297 I’ve just had a good read through that thread, is it still going strong in its reconfigured layout? How did you find the mechanical breaker? I used them when I built my van bu...

pseudonym wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 3:58 pm Good luck on the build, I have no mechanical or electrical skill so wouldn't know where to start so a plug and play system works best for me.

Connecting it all up is pretty straight forward tbh and if you do go wrong the smoke will let you know

Solar generators

Firstly Solar generator is a ridiculous name for something that can’t generate anything without using additional equipment, but that’s how these things are known so that’s what I’ll call them. Moan out of the way and on to the point of my post, I’m going to build my own. When it comes to electricity...

Re: My non-specific bag(s)

Hi, Big Orange, are you the Manc? Good first post. Seems pretty thorough. You absolutely should write it all down. I use a spreadsheet and have categories, eg shelter, and weights. As Arzosah said, it's a bit light on clothing. Spare socks would be a start, yes. One way or another, a warm jacket is...
