Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

I'm wary about doing much in the garden. My back is easily put out. I did mow the lawn. I noticed next door's is long, not sure if he's just busy or deliberately letting it grow for the insects. I cut down all the weeds in my raised bed. My 5 security bushes are doing ok, despite limited light. They...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

I have a ‘what if?’ bag in the attic, I refuse to call it a ‘bug out bag’ for various reasons but it is more or less the same thing. I’m going to bring it down and go through it to make sure everything is working in it. Happy to take advice for the stock. So spare winter clothes. First aid kit. Por...

Re: New here

Welcome. Speaking of panic, I was just reading this excellent article How to survive a disaster https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20150128-how-to-survive-a-disaster Article cites a fire that killled 55 on the runway at Manchester Airport in 1985. Biggest killer is inaction. It's a sort of passive ...

Re: New here

There are lots of similar examples from the Twin Towers to Grenfell. Being able to make a good & rapid decision and see it through seems to be key to survival. Waiting for someone else to take the lead seems to sometimes be deadly. Yep, twin towers is cited in the article and the study cited in...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

Got my 4 new windows fitted. Looks like a good job. All windows are double glazed now. Hopefully will spend less on heating. Should be able to turn that off for the summer in a few days. Fitting the blinds back up has been tricky. I've done two. You have to use short screws due to the rebate, and so...

Re: Prepper -'lite' or full on survivalist

Yes the roads are likely to get gridlocked. Can you carry your gear if necessary? Making an early decision is a tricky one, but if the authorities say you must evacuate, it's made for you. I can't carry the gear far at all; for me it would have to be totally desperate to bug out on foot at my age. ...

Re: Prepper -'lite' or full on survivalist

I do have a BOB, but it's mainly intended for enforced evacuation or for partnering my BOV (only if I'm desperate). The BOV is good for about 5 reasonably comfortable but boring days. From what I can find out, a decision needs to be taken in the first 18 to 30 hours when bugging out from a city, de...

Re: Prepper -'lite' or full on survivalist

Pepper ish. I'm aiming to provide a reasonably comfortable living for myself and my descendants in the event of long economic decline. If I can also help my local community that's a bonus. Being able to live comfortably, which for most implies financial security, is the most important part of prepp...
