Antibiotics again...advice please
Re: Antibiotics again...advice please
ALL medication comes from the natural world originally and will again, I do not trust modern drugs, they only treat the symptom not the problem and there are so many "side effects" ! I'd rather take something natural than anything that has been made as adjunct of the petro chemical industry-which of course wont exist post SHTF.
Adapt or Die, there is no middle ground.

That's you prerogative, but i just want to point out three things;lonewolf wrote:ALL medication comes from the natural world originally and will again, I do not trust modern drugs, they only treat the symptom not the problem and there are so many "side effects" ! 1. Pre-antibiotic era mortality rate of pneumonia was 20-40%, post-antibiotic well below 1%! (not taking those odds, IMO is the fasttrack for an Darwin award)
2. Antibiotics were "invented" by bacteria and fungi to combat each other. They are in their purest form natural.
3. Take it from someone who has actually seen fulminant hepatic failure caused by herbs and green tea, to "stay healthy"; Herbs aren't non-toxic, nor healthy if taken in large amounts. And to get enough "good stuff" to make a difference you have to take large amounts. Remember that the reason most plants make "medicines", is to protect themselves from being eaten. They are in other words toxins. We humans just figured the "active ingredient" out, and how to isolate, synthesize or improve upon. And as for most antibiotics, they are still produced by yeasts and not "the petro chemical industry".

and what about the over prescribing of anti biotics for everything from a sniffle upwards, we now have super bugs that are antibiotic resistant. no thanks! i'll stick to the natural remedy.

You are absolutely correct! Promiscuous antibiotic use is a problem, and if you read my posts in this thread and earlier ones you'll see i always advocate seeing a GP for antibiotics (pre-SHTF, post we got bigger issues). That the GPs generally are too lax, in my opinion, with prescriptions (as you say prescribe for a sniffle), is an issue. The Danish Health & Medicine Authority are trying to inform and restrict, with some success. And Denmark is one of the most restricted countries if you look at antibiotic prescription. That does pay off in our resistance patterns.lonewolf wrote:and what about the over prescribing of anti biotics for everything from a sniffle upwards, we now have super bugs that are antibiotic resistant.
But remember, the "super-bugs" generally aren't more aggressive than their less resistant mates, its just that we are in effect back in the pre-antibiotic era with them. So to be cruel and blunt, if you won't take antibiotics you equally well off with the super-bug as with the non-resistant strain. And that means... not very well.

I don't trust the UK NHS, in fact I think hospital is the worst place to be unless you've got a life threatening illness. my advise to anyone would be if you NEED to take repeat prescriptions then get yourself a stockpile, to anyone else I'd advise WEANING themselves off any and all unnecessary drug use. post SHTF falling over a supply of drugs will be remote to non existent as all chemists will have long been looted and trashed, first aid kits are a different thing, get as many of these as you can and the larger the better.

We're getting way off-topic, so this will be my last post down this path.lonewolf wrote:I don't trust the UK NHS, in fact I think hospital is the worst place to be unless you've got a life threatening illness. my advise to anyone would be if you NEED to take repeat prescriptions then get yourself a stockpile, to anyone else I'd advise WEANING themselves off any and all unnecessary drug use. post SHTF falling over a supply of drugs will be remote to non existent as all chemists will have long been looted and trashed, first aid kits are a different thing, get as many of these as you can and the larger the better.
Again what you do to yourself is your choice. I'm not sure what you define as unnecessary drugs, in my perspective no prescribed drugs are unnecessary. I'd advise against giving medical advice if you're not a trained medical professional. It can end up ugly if someone follows your advice and is worse off because of it.

Re: Antibiotics again...advice please
OK - maybe my original, specific (I thought) question has been misunderstood?
I'm looking for advice please on the best broad spectrum antibiotic (suitable for someone with a penicillin allergy) to add to my emergency/SHTF medicine store.
I'm hoping for advice from people with this medical knowledge or maybe somebody has already asked this question so knows the answer.
Really I would just like some names of possible suitable antibiotics so that I can then go and research them, their uses, availability etc.
I'm a grown adult. It's my choice/decision:
a) to ask this question on this forum politely (as I think I did) and so shouldn't need to justify why I'm asking the question here and not of my doctor.
b) to have antibiotics in my prepping supplies. Or not.
c) to consider any advice given and come to my own conclusions based on any such advice kindly offered. (Take that as a your get out clause )
Thank you to those who have offered relevant advice

Re: Antibiotics again...advice please
I'm sorry the thread got derailed.
I boil it down. I'd advise you to use moxifloxacin (Avelox) in your prepping supplies.

Re: Antibiotics again...advice please
and you are??? in my view GP's give out far too many prescriptions and once something is on your repeat prescription it never gets taken off, even if your not using it. I might have used the word "advise" unwisely, lets just say that's what I would and have done(weaned off prescribed drugs that is)Werecat wrote: I'd advise against giving medical advice if you're not a trained medical professional. |
