m89r, I totally agree that leaving your home should be the last resort. Your not in a bad spot really. If you DID have to leave in a hurry then you're well suited. Arzosah is also right - take part and mingle within your local community but don't be telling them you're a prepper!
As mentioned, think of ways of how to make your front door less appealing to other front doors. You can erect grilles, grates and shutters but that will drawer attention.
Transparent anti blast and anti vandal window film is available if it will help you sleep better:

Beefing up your front door using one of these could be an option too:

Again, it's all down to your specific situation and location. Personally, I'd stay put, makes friends but keep a low profile, make your preps, and fortify your home as best as you can without giving the game away

I saw a video on a "london bar" that looks quite good. Very simple to put in and quite effective, basically stops the three tiny screws in the door frame flying out if someone applies horizontal force to it. Its quite a low profile design, its only since i saw the video on them iv started to notice them on doors.

That's a good one. These could be improvised using flat steel bar - a lot cheaper. 2 of these placed at hinge level and 1 placed halfway up the door would make it extremely tough.m89r wrote:I saw a video on a "london bar" that looks quite good. Whether you buy or improvise, as long as it does the job and suits your needs, that's all that matters.

Re: Family restrictions
Been thinking more about this, and have come up with some interesting ideas!
I started thinking about what will become surplus, in a situation where we have to baten down, it's quite amazing how much 'comfort' there is in a house!
For example, each of the kids has their own bed - although maintaining normality will be required, for warmth, we would probably all be in one room, rather than spread around the house.
That gives me 1 metal framed loft bed, and one metal framed bunk bed.
The loft bed has a double mattress, which uses 2 gridded supports to hold the mattress.
Basically, they are large squares of metal wire in a frame.
These will be perfect to use to increase security around doors, windows and other weak points.
Using the metal leg supports and large screws, they will be fitted inside the doors and windows to assist in preventing entry.
Does anyone else have any similar ideas??

I see where you are coming from on the warmth front, which may be an issue, but security wise you get a better idea of what's going on around you if you are spread around the house, with double glazing it's a surprise just how much we can be unaware of in normal times.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
