Hello Ladies! Another fledgling lady prepper here from Scotland. My daughter is the only other one in the family who is in on this, but she isn't on here.

When shtf what exactly do you mean? It means different things to everybody on here.

Jansman's shtf was when he was made redundant - his preps came in very useful.

Several members have got through a very wet and windy winter with erratic power using their preps.

My preps helped us through a period of zero hours contract and erratic work.

I have yet to find anyone who has used their preps due to a zombie invasion...

So, think about the scenarios that you could be facing and then start with preparing for that. That could be as simple as lack of power so alternative lighting and cooking facilities.

I'm old enough to remember:

Being snowed in in Ayrshire when I was wee,
The miners' strike in the 70s, power cuts and heating from and cooking on a paraffin stove in the kitchen,
Not long before my daughter was born, Jan '99, I remember the queues for petrol and people being turned away because of the tanker drivers' strike and,
I think it was around then too, there was a problem getting bread into the shops and everyone panic bought. The shelves were empty and
Water shut off with no notice because of burst pipes.

The short-term preps are therefore:
Enough food, heating, lighting and a way to cook without electricity for up to a few days initially,

Should things really go pear-shaped and society breaks down my long-term objectives are:
Enough food (or a way to get it) indefinitely (aquaculture, hunting, etc).
Renewable power sources.
Protection for my family.

I have a long way to go.
