Been in the garden most of the day :D

My stepdad has a contact who owns a fruit farm. He has tons, and I mean tons, of apples that he cannot give away. Local farmers have been taking them to feed to their pigs! There is nothing wrong with the apples.

So he bought us over 40lbs of apples which are now pressed and tomorrow will be bottled and pasteurised! There will probably be about 20 bottles. A good 2 hrs work.

I cut some rhubarb lengths from fingertips to nearly my elbow.
Ordered some decking to make raised beds ,2 bulk bags of topsoil and a bag of slate clippings to tidy other end of garden where herbs will be.
Wife's pet French lop and conti giant rabbits are producing some good manure.

Edit to add
Been to local carboot got a little magnetic plug in light for a car and a first aid ziplock pouch with couple bandages and some gloves 50 pence each, topped up the kit with some plasters and KFC wet wipes
A unused zippo lighter for £5
And a little slugger wooden bat for £3.

Ordered myself an emergency eye care kit (for eye damage "at the workplace") and two eye baths. The rationale behind this is that for whatever reasons I find it hard to use cleaning chemicals safely, my eyes are sensitive anyway as a result of previous injuries and it would be good to look after them in case of emergency. Having bandages for bleeding and bones is great, but what if the eyes have stopped working?

 no I cannot!!! I split all mine with a maul. It does you good and keeps you fit. It is character building :D
You don't have to do it all in one go. You do not have to visit a gym, costs you nowt, you get a good, free end- result. Win- win in my book. Great. ;)

I marked out my allotment with bamboo and string on Sunday, bought some proper stakes and chicken wire yesterday (what a palaver that is when one has to rely on public transport and a granny trolley!), and started digging out the boundary this afternoon. I got halfway round in about 2 hours and knocked a couple of stakes in. Hopefully I'll have the rest of the boundary dug and some more stakes in tomorrow morning. My back does not like spadework! Planning on getting the chicken wire up by Thursday. Then I can start the important job of actually digging beds! I might have some seeds in somewhere by the end of the bank holiday weekend if I'm very lucky! :D

I know it's good for me  but while the power is still on it would be nice to make it easier

It's a good feeling though knowing it was all your work. Certainly makes you sleep better

GadgetGuy, I have resisted going over to the dark side-I, like you, have thought about buying a splitter.
However, I will continue to use The Force!

I use an axe for speed. Just got a foot-powered splitter for tougher jobs for our wedding anniversary.

Seems good for the price. Needs a block between the backstop and an unseasoned log.
SHTF around 2017.
