Prepared for common health problems?

Post by theoldcowguru »

How many of us are prepared for health problems which may occur or show after an event?

Obviously, (unless you have a lot of money and resources), you can't prepare for the major illnesses or all problems, but you can prepare for the some minor ones which will become a nuisance could, if left to fester, become serious.

For example, Althete's foot. Although people may have socks which let your feet ‘breath' or are going to change socks or wash feet regulary, what happens if you get it. It is extremely an stubborn fungi because it occupies the outer layer of the skin (epidermis) therefore the immune system has a hard time recognising and destroying it i.e it doesn't get dealt with. It thrives in moist warm conditions, in between toes and in footwear. The non-greasy cream that is used against it is called Daktarin and there are powders as well. There's home remedies (I don't know how effective they are, and there's home remedies for many things).

Another example is ingestinal worms (common threadworms and pinworms). This can be passed around easily, through contact with dogs, clothes and bed sheets. Often they go after a couple of weeks, through good sanitation. Very easy to reinfect. There are single pills you can buy at a Pharmacy (I know there's free healthcare from the NHS, but I can't encourage abusing it). It is also possible to buy a family pack, so all the members of a family can take a tablet in case they have been infected and to prevent reinfection. There's home remedies, again. I think Garlic and Onions work well because they release an enzyme when broken down which kills many intestinal parasites. It's not 100% effective.

Someone I know had a reaction to medication recently. It was Neurofen pain-killers suprisingly (I think or something just as common). This person's face and mouth had swollen and has to get more medication. Something like this could happen to you. There are many more illnesses which couldn't be prepared for due to mainly finance, but I think everything said is applicable and counts. The illnesses mentioned aren't the only two illnesses that should be prepared for, as they were just examples and I do think it is something to think about.

I'm very sure I'm right but correct me if I'm wrong.

I had read that eating pumpkin seeds can stun the worms and make them unable to cling to the gut wall and thus they get passed out of the digestive tract.

You can buy, and I presume store, some tinctures of all kinds of herbs (wormwood, black walnut husks and cloves). I have tried a version of this tincture and it gave me a real bad stomach upset, so maybe be careful if you have a history of digestive disorders. Diatomaceous Earth (100% food grade) is taken by some people to help kill intestinal nasties. And wormwood herb tea (which is supposed to be bitter and rank) can also help kill off internal nasties too.

Having a diet high in curry spices could possibly help, and so too can garlic, although it gives me the runs like nobodies business.

Although these things are all well and good, I am not sure of the amateur knowledge out there on the internet is good enough to help me self diagnose and treat.

But yes, I have prepared incase of those possibilities.

Most parasites are species specific. Esp in humans. Pinworms are passed from human to human - usually not from pets. Same with lice.

Please, call your physician with any questions. Oddly, folks DO call the vet regarding their child's pinworm infections - at least here is the US. One of our many medical problems... The 'net is the last place you should use to get medical advice for a serious problem.

BTW - a common source for pinworm infection comes from daycare centers. Hygiene, care and good training can stop this straight away.
