Retreats on the cheap?

As much as I'd like to get a nice tasty ready built fortress with all the luxuries of money, I can't. So I need advice on how to aquire/build a retreat on the cheap. REALLY cheap...like, under £15,000.

Only pre-requisite is that it has to be well high up, to avoid any 2012 floods...and well away from population centres. Preferably would like to pre-position supplies...even if its just a shipping container stuffed into some woodland somewhere.

Any idea's?

Unfortunately not. Land is probably the biggest obstacle to me, as it would be the largest outlay of money (And I can't get the mortgage, being young single and with a terrible credit score). After that I could do everything in bits an bobs...

Building land is going to be expensive where ever you go in the UK, so doing it the normal way is definately out with £15,000.

£15,000 wouldn't pay the wages of a self employed builder for the time it would take to build something decent.

First get a piece of land with outline permission, start saving now and within 20 years you might have a plot to start off with, then get planning permission, that's going to cost another year or two of saving.

Or, buy a caravan on a static site and live there, you might get one sub £15,000, but it won't be a new one.

Was hoping to buy/bum a small plot of forest somewhere. Preferably up a hill, with nearby water. Problem is finding a cheap plot of forest...seen a couple loitering around the £15K area for a few acres, but they're never in good area's away from peoples...

After that, building would be carried out by yours truely, as and when I can. Even if its just a garden shed on some scrubland -_- Better than living smack bang in the middle of chavland...

Static site is no good for me. I don't wanna be anywhere near anybody, tourists or otherwise...

Well if you find some where to build it

And you know afgan army fort place called Bastion
Well it constructed from Concertaine made by HESCO FROM LEEDS
There really are very very easy to build with, you just open them up and fill them with anything mud, stone, sand whatever
They link together with steel rods and stack and they are bomb proof
they also make a kit that turns into house

Are you planning to live there full time or will this be a BOL?

Of course anything you build needs to be within current construction regulations, because like it or not at this current time the need to be constructed properly is important.

Does anyone remember the Grand Designs show where the guy built his house in the woods because of the type of work he did. Well the regulations (which we should all live by for the present) said he could only have property as long as he lived, he could not sell it and if he left the place he would have to knock it down.

Sadly in this country (and many others) there isn't much wilderness where we can stake a claim anymore.

BOL only. Myself and two others just looking for somewhere to position our gear, because I doubt I could carry near enough stuff AND my pals in my lil Barbiecar...we struggle fitting ourselves and the shopping in there -_-

And yeah, current building laws are a pain in the ass. But hopefully if TS does HTF, there won't be no building inspectors or council tax collectors coming around to annoy us...
