First attempt at making bread

Post by Jack the Lad »

Its a skill we have decided to learn and if we can get the hang of it I know we can store the ingredients.
Went to makro last week, I like to stock up in there, we call it our once in a year shop. Anyways I got the ingredients and this was the outcome.

Tasted really nice cold and excellent warm but never lasted very long before it went stale :( 3 days max

We did the makro ready mix bread cakes & plain white loaf
Our own bread cakes mix
Parmesan & Sundried Tomato Bread
Chilli Bread

Worked out well, will try again :geek:

Put a deep tin in the bottom of the oven filled with boiling water as you preheat the oven before baking ;)

Well done.

Thing is bread doesn't keep, thats why you store it as flour (and LTS grain because flour deteriorates over time).

Love the sound of cheesy tomato-y bread...... Theres no "Drooling" emoticon either :(

Have you thought about sourdough ?

Mmmm they all look fabulous, nothing like making your own bread, although mine is normally done in the machine, you can't actually eat bread I make myself but you could build a house with it... I store mine in a plastic bag if it's not all eaten and that does extend the life a bit more. Saying that, if my Son is around and I've made any type of bread, he will eat the whole loaf in a day. Hollow legs I think. :?

Well done, you got some good results there. Bread baking is both a useful skill and a source of great pleasure, in my house at least. I found that keeping records of proportions of flour, water etc. helped me to get consistent results once I had graduated from using mixes. And flour and yeast are much cheaper than loaves of bread. You can freeze bread well if you make too much.
