Wow that looks amazing
can't wait to get my canning off the ground it's the jar situation here that's been holding me back. So going to give the jam jar type a whirl in the pressure canner and see how they hold up.

@ Ragdolly, thank you for your encouragement, we are beginning to pick up pace with the development of the business. we have just received confirmation that Norpro http://norpro.com/store/category/apple-and-canning want to come on board with us too!!! :o :D :lol:
Dear Daryl,

Hello and good day! Thank you so much for contacting us and for your interest in NORPRO products. I apologize for the delay in my reply.

We would certainly be interested in working with you to bring home canning products to the UK. Please let me know which canning items are of interest to you and we can move ahead from there. I look forward to your reply and to the possibility of working with you. If you have any questions or if there is anything more I can do to help please let me know.

Thank you again and with best regards,

Bernadin is a big make of canning jars ( alongside ball) and we get 12 1 litre jars for between 8 and 11 CAD. ( I think it's about 0.65p to $1) or something. They also come in 500 ml; 250 ml and 125ml and then there's regular or wide mouth. Wide mouth is what u want for meats, etc. easier to get the finished product out of the jar.

I use bernadin a lot. They also have products like, pickle crisp; fruit fresh and pickling spice which makes life easier.

Also look at Tatler lids. These bad boys are re- usable canning lids - regular canning lids: yr taking a chance using them over again, although I totally do!

@Ragdolly.

yes i know about Bernadin, but the cost of shipping over here is the killer. I have, hopefully, got a good price for Kilner jars here in the UK, the negotiations for that are still ongoing, but there is no option for a widemouth type jar under this brand. Another downfall we have is, to keep inline with EU law and regulations, we cannot retail on the open market, jars that are measured in imperial, i.e. quarts, pints and ounces, they have to be metric measurements. There is no problem for home use, or, if we re-advertise, for example the quart jars capacity as 0.9L and cover up the advertised capacity on the jars packaging with a sticker stating the metric capacity!!!

We had already approached Tatler about their re-usable lids but no reply as of yet, so fingers crossed that we will here positively from them soon.

Thanks for your input Ragdolly, it is muchly appreciated, and we welcome others to get involved, as well a big thanks to all those who already have.

All the best

@Hamradioop,

the prices are still quite high at Lakeland, Hamradioop, if you compare what the cost of a dozen Ball Mason 1quart jars cost in the USA.

Our main ethos of this enterprise is to bring the cost of home canning over here as close as is feasibly possible to what our friends in the States pay. Right now, home canning is an acquired craft or niche hobby and is treated as such, it isn't viewed right now as a staple part of home life, so suppliers apply a premium to the supplies. We hope to not just service people who are already aware and canning, but to reach further afield as well.

Thank you Hamradioop, your efforts are appreciated and welcomed, just do the comparison though matey, that i mentioned above, and get ready for a few muttered expletives, lol. :evil:

If the necessary items become available in the UK for home canning it will snowball if it's got out there right, we considered doing it a couple of years ago but then started a different business for my wife.
We will definitely be regular customers.

I found a reasonable priced supplier of Kilner on evilbay, does all types of jars bottles in bulk, so check out his other items, don't know them but have bought from them and delivery is pretty much next day

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261070777299? ... EBIDX%3AIT

For Canner try Amazon, for most peeps in the UK the ALL American is out of reach but this does the job just fine at a quarter of the cost

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00006ISG8/r ... 9KGE3I0Z35

Now all you need is to get haggling at the market for cut price bulk buys :D Happy Canning :D

That canner is £74 p&p :!:

There are cheaper on ebay even the one I got cheap isn't much more now.

There is no way I'm going to pay that price for jars. It would not be worth it as then could not afford food to go in them haha. :lol:
That's why untill we get the cheaper jars here, I will be using jam type jars I expect even if I lose some food I will still be saving a lot of money. But wont really lose food as would eat or freeze any that didn't seal in the jar.
