Still considering do I want to survive the end of the world or deck chair on the front lawn with a cold beer?

Re: menu for a week
That can't be for 7 days I think having all of that would be for much longer unless packets are a lot smaller than I am thinking 6 packets of crackers for instance or 2 boxes of cereal there is more than 7 portions in a packet.
Ok a couple of things I hadn't thought to add fizzy juice, diluting juice, bags of sweets so they are getting added now. Tea coffee is missing as neither of us drink it but do enjoy hot choc so that should be there. Water isn't on my list but def thought about and planned for else where

How about adding pasta or pearl barley to your soups, you can get tiny shapes for this purpose, tinned veg, tinned pies or puddings, instant mash and assorted types of beans?
Add dried/tinned fruits to porridge. Snacks could be naked bars, fruit rolls, popping corn or chocolate bars.
Have to confess I have a large box filled with treats like chocolate bars, sweets and toffees etc

Jelly
We are keen on 'raw' jelly as a treat here at Stashings. A cheap prep with a long shelf life. Eminently portable too.

No need to be embarrassed! I too have a clearly labelled *large* tub full of TEOTWAWKI chocolate (and other sweeties!). Any crisis looks better from the other end of a Bounty bar!Decaff wrote:Have to confess I have a large box filled with treats like chocolate bars, sweets and toffees etc
The Hawaiian list seems to have a LOT of meat for two people for a week! And not much in the way of veggies or fruit. Interesting they don't mention constipation remedies...! I have lots of tinned and dried fruits, and little tubs of custard (these, incidentally, are one of the few things that really do need to be eaten by the Best Before date, they go solid and very unpalatable within about a month of the date!).
One tinned meat I've discovered recently is stewing steak in gravy - lots of supermarkets sell it, I get mine from Lidl. It's not the cheapest tinned meat but add tinned peas and tinned potatoes and it's (almost) like having Sunday Lunch! I've also recently stocked up on various Tuna salads for additional lunch options - John West do them, but my favourite are Lidl's. They do them in foil containers and ring-pull tins around £1.20-£1.50 each. Long shelf life. Just open and eat. Have just noticed Tesco selling their own version, but it's noticeably smaller...!
I normally drink a lot of fizzy drinks so usually have a goodly stock, and I've just bought myself a soda-stream, so assuming the water supply is sufficient there is the option of lots of different flavours to avoid boredom. Speaking of which, when I was laid up with flu in August my taste went funny and things I normally liked I couldn't stand. Like the taste of artificial sweetener! As all my fizzy drinks were of the diet variety I got a bit stuck, but then I found at the back of the cupboard a packet of Lipton's Ice Tea powder - which is basically flavoured sugar and lasts forever. Saved me from going thirsty! Can heartily recommend it.

!!! Sadly I have a nice stock of fizzy drinks too... Plus fruity waters in a mix of fizzy and still plus packets of fruit powders to add to water. Will add Lipton's ice tea to my try it list too, thank you for mentioning.ukpreppergrrl wrote:No need to be embarrassed! !!!! I couldn't agree more!! As well as the plastic tub of mixed goodies, I have 36 boxes of chocolate chip brunch bars, a box of 30 super size twix bars and I have a very large glass jar full of mixed chocolate covered toffees! Sainsburys sell a basics version of mixed naughtiness in a bag...!!!!!

how do you store your dried fruit without it crystallising?? I have lots of tinned fruits and heaven help me quite a few chocolate steam puddings in tins, and the syrup ones!!

I personally can't stand tinned ham of any brand, but I do like tinned mackerel. Tescos do one in Teriyaki sauce which is utterly fantastic, never seen that anywhere else! Not a particular curry fan per se but for me Sainsbury's chicken korma is good (but not Tescos' or Lidl's!). It's amazing how different they taste sometimes, clearly they don't always come from the same factory just with different labels!Decaff wrote:!!!
