Thanks for the tip! Definitely is cheaper. Do most of you keep 1+ years worth of foodstuffs, or shorter term?

Im very new to prepping as could not afford to prep for my family ( who live elsewhere) and my own prep so was at a mental block.
But now I have stepped it up a notch. I have found a recipe for a high fat high protein snack that last for years and that will keep me going on very little.
So I will be making loads of that and the other day went out and bought huge quantities of normal prep food for my daughter and her two children. ( I felt held back and so didn't really do anything  ) including vitamins and medicine for the little ones

I am aiming for 3 mths suply at first and then once I am there I will keep going. I do feel much easier now knowing I do have things for myself and one of my children and their children.
My eldest I feel will have what they need to survive.

My main worry now is my other Son who has 4 children and lives in Scotland.
I will be going for a visit soon and going to have to bite the bullet and ask that they ( cant for the life of me think of the word im looking for) bear with me and to make me happy by getting a few weeks worth of food, water and other supplies in. Nothing else I can do.

Sorry went off on one again

Humour me was the word! :D

Kizzie, do you have a recipe for the high fat/protein snack? I'd definitely be interested to hear about that. Something ready-to-eat with long storage life would be great to have around.

You're doing exactly what I am aiming for - a 3 month supply of absolute basics (starvation rations, really), and gradually increasing and adding more variety. The ideas on this website have been invaluable!

Its called Pemmican.

Here is a link I'm using a variety of meats mixed berries and beef fat. Then will add seasoning and spices to taste.

I dried all the meat and berries in the oven ( lowest heat with the door a tiny bit open ) and made my own beef fat from lumps of fat from the butcher. I ground the beef in my prosseser then the berries.

The original recipe was just dried and powdered meat and fat. But others do whatever they fancy to it. Look on you tube there are lots of ways and ideas.
