hello everyone
I,ve started doing some 10X14 mylar bags packing more of the basic prepps and i,ve noticed a lot of moisture getting into my storage area.
Now i,m using the normal 500cc oxygen absorbers can i use a moisture absorber in the same pack or will they prevent each other from working correctly ?
Hi guys need some help and advise

What are you storing?
Other questions that spring to mind are:
Is it just condensation on the outside of the bags?
Where are you storing the bags?
Are you getting damp problems elsewhere?
Dessicants (Silica gel and the like) don't remove the moisture they just attract any water thats around to prevent it from getting on other things.
An O2 absorber/scavenger locks the oxygen in (Often as Ferric Oxide), they do need a little humidity to work

Hi forgecorvus
I,m storing indoors i live every high up moisture levels are very high here i,ve even had to put a Dehumidifier in with my tinned goods.
Storing cereals wholegrain rice flour dried egg power and all the other basic stuff the list goes on.
i,ve had a bit of a problem couple of guys have said dont use 02 absorbers with the dessicants in the same bag because they counter act each other
others have said they can be used in bigger bags 10x14 or the 1gallon bags put o2 in the top and dessicents in the bottom (would that work)?.
Also i want to store suger in mylar and i,ve heard 02 makes the suger go rock hard any ideas on this its also does the same with salt ?

Hi, its true if you put oxy absorbers in sugar it will turn solid. I store mine in the large clip top Kilner jars, this ensures it stays dry, could you use these? I don't put any absorbers in salt either mine is left in the packaging it comes in as salt doesn't go off so this is fine. Are you storing your sealed Mylar bags in food grade air tight buckets with a few absorbers?
There are many very experienced peppers on here who I'm sure will offer a lot more advice.
I would also try to get to the bottom if where the damp is coming from, this can't be good for your health!

Hi decaff
I,ve got tons of kilner jars mostly use them for short term storage and i put my home grown stuff inn pickled cabbage beetroot and all my chicken and duck eggs aswell.
How long will the suger last in the jars ?.
As for damp coming in thats really a problem at my location 750ft above sea level tends to be a bit misty in mornings and Night got Dehumidifier runin g most of the time.
I store my mylar in bins with Moisture desiccant in the bin and now i,ve had a chat with some guys i,m putting them in the bottom of my mylar aswell i always double up with everything in case something fails.
i,ve hear honey last forever got myself a bee hive, now gotta get the bees double up honey and defence.

Sugar lasts indefinitely as long as its kept dry. Just the clip top jars filled to the top should be fine as these are tight seals.
Bit of a problem living up that high then!!
